This guy with a scar thru his nose and cheek that wears a dark raincoat even on sunny days says he can make me a good deal on a SOTA turntable. Does anyone here in forum land have any experience with this brand? Any insights will be greatly appreciated.
They were built primarily in the eighties; there were several models, the earliest was the Sapphire, then came the Star Sapphire which is the same unit but with a vacuum to hold the record onto the platter. This was followed by a few others - the Cosmos for one. I like mine a lot, but I don't think there's much of a market for them. You can get parts for them at www.sotaturntables.com. I've used SOTAs since 1981. Hope this helps.
Arthur Salvatore, the guy with the "Recommended Components List" gives it kind of a "honorable mention" and has a short description of the Sota's characteristics: http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-Tables.html Arne
