What do you guys think is best, RCA or balanced, and why?

According to our host who advised me when I asked this exact question was "RCA's are what you want to stick with because they're much more musical sounding." After trying a balanced configuration I had to agree he was right.

I tried a cable over the weekend and for the first time I actually heard differences in pace and timing. Before this I had thought that the idea of interconnect cables affecting pace and timing was rubbish.
While the cable in question does not affect the speed of the signal, it does affect the decay of notes to the point where there is less decay than other cables. Creates subtle gaps or lags in the sound that comes off as mildly hesitant. This cable is not for me!

I have read reviews of certain components that mention better sound and have better specifications when the balanced connections were used. The other thing is length of the cable run- long runs- e.g. 10 feet so that some people have for some reason generally sound better with balanced connections.

I have recently gone through a similar exercise. I tried a few cables and by far on my system I loved the Siltech Explorer series - I got the 180's ( I cannot afford any of their high range lines). Incredible detail without taking away from my EAR 834P's lushness. I do have Nordost Red Dawn speaker cables but these interconnects outperformed the Red Dawn interconnects. I also put in Siltech Explorer 270 power cables into my Bryston 4b amp and EAR phono stage. Both made a huge difference. I could only afford to buy two of them at this time and tried it on various components. Made the biggest difference on the amp and then on the phono stage.
