Agreed. Time to release some vintage shows from the 1970's and 1980's. I would even settle for one "other band" show from 92/93 over these contemporary period shows. That said, it is probably easier for the Springsteen camp to release these contemporary period shows; they are probably all catalogued, mixed and ready to go. If they go back into the archives for something vintage, a lot more work is probably involved with the production process.
I'd like a 92/93 show too, if only for the variety. It's probably way down on their priorities list though. I'm a bit surprised they still haven't released that Tom Joad show that was supposedly ready to go before they put out the Devils and Dust show instead.
Very little on some - wasn't Agora '78 taken from two-track? Christic was off of the soundboard two-track as well. Others are obviously mixed and mastered for release.
It doesn't sound like any of the vintage shows were worked on. They had the 75 show for decades, and the Nassau 80 show obviously wasn't mixed. Agora sounds identical to the bootleg and the 84 show sounds like a work tape. Maybe the TOL show.
Was really hoping for an uncirculated classic show to crank up on beach trips this summer. This is a bummer. The modern era shows are all easy enough to get in decent quality already.
Why do you say that about Nassau '80? Sounds good to me, and quite different from the soundboard that circulated for years.
First, it doesn't sound much different than the bootleg, but if they actually mixed it, wouldn't somebody have turned up the guitar? I know there's nothing you can do about the frozen piano keys but the guitars are largely missing.
Nah he's too busy releasing c*** like this 2009 show now. **** it. I give up. Landau was the WORST person he could have chosen to be his manager. THE worst.
No, because until or unless it's released, it does not exist at all. Look at all the albums Bruce was going to put out and didn't. How about the live Devils and Dust DVD? Etc., etc. Also WHY put out this show when 1) this whole damn series caters to the fanatics and 2) they don't mostly WANT anything from 2009 - AGAIN!!!!! But of course, some fans are sheep and think 'WE MUST BE GRATEFUL FOR ANYTHING BRUCE RELEASES'.
Please forgive my gruffness, but I'm still waiting for the Springsteen camp to get off of their collective duffs and start releasing some vintage shows as Sony releases. That stuff is too special not to be given a grand presentation. Downloads and CD-R's? Call me old-fashioned, but I think it's a slap in the face to how important and spectacular all of the shows from the beginning on up to and including the Tunnel Of Love Express Tour were.
The CDR/Download format is extremely disappointing. Granted, the mixing has been a serious issue with these releases, but not offering silvers is ridiculous.
Definitely, PacificOceanBlue. Hope all is well with you. I haven't responded to a post of yours in ages.
Philly '75 and Nassau '80 should have been proper Columbia releases. Insane that they didn't took the opportunity when they have the multitracks. It's not like there's a whole bunch of multitracks from that era in the vault
I'm hoping this will improve now Altschiller is mixing the archive shows. That the 4 releases this year are from 2009,2008,2012 and now 2009 again has been pretty underwhelming.
I support concert releases that include large portions of either Magic, WOAD, WB, or HH setlists. This latest release mostly fails in that respect, on paper. I feel like those albums are relevant work to the artist and to me as a fan, as are also of course much of the 'newer' The Promise and The River Outtakes tracks, yet large portions of those 'albums' are also missing from full concerts when Bruce plays modern day concerts, I'd much rather hear a concentration of the above. Plus a smattering of Lucky Town, Human Touch, GOTJ, and D&D. If he played nothing from the 70's and 80's I'd be 'Happy' as a fan. The sound quality and mixes were very sketchy on initial releases of HH shows etc.. I would also like to see compilations or rare individual tracks offered as single downloads. For instance, is "The Wall" audio that was on video on the BS official site even available as an audio only track? It slays the HH album performance. Also, there are usually or sometimes 10 -15 songs, many of the 'staples' that I have no interest in ever downloading or listening to as part of any of the concerts unless they are either reworked or taken from their respective era and much newer than older at the time of performance. Mytwocents.
I can live with downloads. Sure, it would be great to have some classic shows on CD, but downloads are easy and cheap and I've managed to survive far worse SQ on bootlegs for decades. That said, this latest archive release is pretty ho-hum. C'mon, there have to be shows in the vaults from the 70s-80s that we haven't heard! I guess we'll see what the next release holds.
Supposedly a 77, 96, and a 2000 show were turned in to Bruce Inc last week by JA for review and release. Prior to last night's surprise release of another 2009 show, the rumor was that the May 8, 2000 show was planning on being released today around noon. Supposedly that is still the plan but who knows. We will see in about an hour.
Absolutely on the money. Unfortunately this will never happen. Should have been done 20 years ago. Such a shame. His live legacy has been grossly mismanaged.
