Unfortunately I can't read Japanese and Google translate isn't much help, but why would they change the album title and catalogue number for a straight reissue?

Because the release we're talking about isn't a straight reissue, it's a companion album to the original.

    MassEducation (Raw)

MassEducation cover and tracklist. This confirms it's a piano acoustic album.

Oooh, the new MassEducation is just Annie and Thomas Bartlett apparently, from The Gloaming (and other things). I was really looking forward to MASSEDUCTION when it came out but I found it harder to get into than the previous St Vincent album - the artifice had seemingly taken over. So a reinterpretation like this is very appealing.

It's the whole album with the order shuffeld around a little.

I'm looking forward to this, though I don't really prefer my Annie unplugged. But it might be a nice addition to her catalogue.

Do we know if the stripped down version on this new album is the just released 'Slow Slow Disco' or is it yet another, fourth version?

In the grand scheme of things, I seriously think she should try going straightforward rock. She's conquered the heavy, techno/digital art-rock stuff and seems to hold herself well in the stripped back solo piano and/or acoustic guitar-type stuff (I like most of what I hear of the new MassEducation), so I think the next logical step she needs to take is the rough and ready straightforward plug-guitar-into-amp/limited-effects-type rock similar to Jack White or (dare I say) Greta Van Fleet. I think she'd do pretty well with it but we haven't really had that much of her in bulk in this way. I'm waiting patiently for something like this. Am I the only one? No? Should I keep dreaming?

Yeah, but it doesn't have to be all she does. I like variety in the music I listen to, and that's what drew me to her to begin with. At least she is going in that route of varying it up every once in a while unlike many of her contemporaries. I get bored with the same old thing all the time. She's one of the few that doesn't do that. Art rock is one of the most diverse offshoots of rock music anyway; there's leeway in it. I'm just interested to hear what she would be like somewhere between the stripped back stuff of MassEducation and her more over-the-top stuff from like St. Vincent or Masseduction. She's conquered both extremes, why not try the middle ground? She's definitely capable of it. It'd still be art rock. Heck, Bowie did it all the time. Aladdin Sane is mostly straightforward rock, why not she try something more glam rock? With all the accolades about her guitar playing, why not put her abilities to the forefront and do something along the lines of early 1970s glam? That's not to say she doesn't but this would really prove her abilities and spread her fanbase. Just my personal beliefs :)

I don't see the point of this discussion. I mean, she managed to create a sound signature that is very personal, recognizable and right for its times.
Why on Earth should she toss it for something more conventional and outdated?

Yes, I own everything she has out. I'm just saying I think it'd be really cool if she tried out a full album of straightforward rock, like entirely of songs in the same vein as "Your Lips Are Red," "Regret," "Neutered Fruit," "Actor Out Of Work," the live version of "Lightning," etc., basically similar to a heavier Actor but instead of more pop influence, more heavy rock influence. I just think it'd be cool. All I'm saying. Just one guy's opinion.

I'm all for this resurgence of older-style rock because it seems that type of music is so popular because there is a lot more you can do with it; it can appeal to a wider audience, hence that's why Bowie, Zeppelin, Beatles, Elton John, etc. are so popular. I mean straightforward rock in approach, not so much songwriting, but like simple performances of drums, bass, guitar, etc. Just to try it. I can easily hear songs like "Lazarus" or "Los Ageless" or "Rattlesnake" or even "Digital Witness" done in a more 70s rock style. Maybe could be a cool idea for a one-off show or something.
