Standard RCA Cable vs. RCA Output Cable From AR Turntable

So...without going into great detail, it's apparent that the RCA output cables coming from my AR-XB have a short at/near the RCA plugs themselves. A question for anyone more intelligent on the subject than me....is a standard RCA cable identical to the one on my AR turntable, or does the AR turntable cable include a common ground? I hope this makes sense. I've trying to avoid having to re-solder in a new cable completely.
