What's your opinion? To me, it's a bit of both and that makes me love it, along with some of the best riffing I think the Stones ever did.

I would agree it's a bit of both...but that's what makes rock and roll so good. :righton:

I remember seeing them in 1976 in the U.K.. Ronnie really loved to sing the chorus! Love it!

I love it. In the 'Some Girls Live in Texas' DVD Mick changes the words around to take a shot at Jimmy Page for some reason. It struck me as odd, anyway.

Christgau: "Only on 'Starf---er,' the most outrageous Chuck Berry throwaway of the band's career, does [Goats Head Soup] really take off."

    Therefore, the answer is both.

He was doing that as early as '75. I see it as no more than a joke in a song that's not meant to be taken that seriously.

I adore the intro, possibly Keith's best-ever Chuck Berry-style riffing. Steve McQueen was highly bemused when they used his name in the song!

I wouldn't call it "classic" Stones--it ain't no "Monkey Man" or even "Start Me Up". I wouldn't call it trash either. It's a straight up tribute, musically speaking, to Keith's hero (or one of 'em) Chuck Berry.

As far as the use of profanity, well, this will just not stand. My virgin ears are ringing. :)

Seriously though, if anyone ever told me this was their favorite Stones tune, or one of them, I'd probably head in the opposite direction.

I've always thought it sounded like an out-take from Exile on Main Street.

Apparently its on the UK album and all CD versions, and the original lyrics were sung in the "Love You Live" version for the US.

Why they bothered censoring anytihng in this particular tune will remain a mystery.

What a bad a** song. I love the way they hang on the IV and V in the last minute. You wait for it to go back to F but it doesn't and the tension just keeps up like a freight train with conductor Keith at the wheel.

Trashy is relative to the context.

Star Star was saucy at the time it's release but now it's just another Stones song.

Before I was in my recording band the Windbreakers I played (circa 1980) in the most popular band in Jackson MS, The Oral Sox. We were pretty much a Stones cover band. Every night we did our version of Star Star and it was always our most popular tune of the night. I hope to never hear it again! Juvenile rubbish for me...

Absolutely both - hell, it's rock 'n' roll!

I always loved Mick's shouts of "Yeah!" in the chorus. The band sounds like it's really having a blast, and why not?

You forgot the choice "neither". It is neither classic or garbage.......
