Harlan Ellison would sue you. (And believe me, Harlan is tenacious.)

Quentin can get a little rambling and scattershot, but he's very, very hyperfocused on the set and in the edit bay.

I think if you handled the results the right way Harlan would love it.

Harlan is very, very picky about his work -- even to the extent of going nuts about punctuation. I've known Harlan casually for more than 35 years, and it's fair to say he's fairly neurotic about this stuff (though has slowed down a bit since his illness).

    I'd rather see a Scorcese-directed Gozilla movie

Quentin isn't qualified for a Trek movie.

I'm not so sure that Trek is qualified to be much of a franchise at this point. I'd give QT a go at it. I doubt it would come out as well as Galaxy Quest but who knows...???

Is Quentin writing anything or does he just have the basic idea that the hired writer ia working on?

As far as I know, Quentin has written at least the screenplay to his movies. And often the story too

I was neither surprised nor shocked, on the contrary: person and creative work are in total harmony.

"R" rated Star Trek? why not?

    from Variety

Quentin Tarantino’s “Star Trek” movie project has gained momentum at Paramount Pictures with “The Revenant” screenwriter Mark L. Smith hired to write the script.

Tarantino and J.J. Abrams will produce and Tarantino may direct. Abrams will produce through his Paramount-based Bad Robot Productions. News of the duo working on the R-rated project first emerged on Dec. 4. Details of the plot have remained under wraps.

Smith teamed with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu on the script for “The Revenant.” Paramount is in post-production on World War II thriller “Overlord,” which Smith co-wrote with Billy Ray and Abrams produced. “Overlord” opens on Oct. 26.

Paramount has released 13 “Star Trek” movies since 1979’s “Star Trek: The Motion Picture.” The studio rebooted the franchise in 2009 with Abrams directing “Star Trek” and “Star Trek: Into Darkness” in 2013 before moving to 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Justin Lin directed “Star Trek Beyond” in 2016.

Tarantino is a fan of the original “Star Trek” TV series and is in pre-production on his ninth movie, an untitled project centered on the Manson Family murders, which Sony has scheduled for Aug. 2, 2019 — the 50th anniversary of the killings. Abrams is currently in pre-production on “Star Wars: Episode IX.”

Smith is repped by WME, Anonymous Content, and Syndicate Entertainment. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.

While I very much disliked the JJ Abrams treatment of "Star Trek" I can't think of how Tarantino could do any worse to be honest. I think he might be able to do an awesome job on this if he breaks out of his formula. I'm ultimately intrigued by him taking this on.

I always liked Harlan's rant about opinions in this clip:

    So true...!

It's a very risky move, and as such, I approve.

We don't need a Star Trek filled with profanity, gratuitous violence, and characters bereft of humanity. I'd like a film that I can take my 11-year-old to see.

It's got to be raunchier than The Orville. I'm expecting over-sexxed space babes in who knows what skin color...? Surely the Romulans or Klingons will have picked up on the F-word as the most useful word in English. And there will be blood but knows what color.... ;)

  24. We have had a bunch of these made and released already. I'm up for giving the franchise a big tweak that QT can provide. It may not work, but no harm in trying.

Is this going to be last directorial effect after 1969/Hollywood film, or his he just co-writer?
