State of newspaper/syndicated comic strips?

As it says above do you have anything to say about contemporary newspaper/syndicated comic strips (whether seen on an actual foolscap/dead tree physical product or seen on the Web)?
My move to the Modesto. CA. area , as mentioned before - and my checking out the Modesto Bee for the first time this last day -gives me a topical springboard for this one.
