    Hello,

stumbled upon a good offering of a Stax SRS 4170 set consisting supposedly of a 06T s amplifier and a Lambda Signature SR-404 headphone. I'm not 100% sure about the system composition but could call the dealer tomorrow.

I'm not familiar with Stax equipment, especially with their legacy modells what this system seems to be.

So please can you answer my two questions:

    A) From what time period is the SRS 4170 set (2010-2015, 2005-2010 or older)?

    B) How does this system compare to a today's system like the SRS-7100 (headphone SR-L700 + amplifier SRM-006TS)? Is the latter soundwise a big step up?

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or opinion,

    Polyphenol

I have the 4170 headphone/ amp SR-404/ 006t II combo. It was purchased new in June 2009. I am certain this pair of gear was sold well past this point.
No personal experience regarding question "B". But, there is a comparison of various Stax headphones from several decades of production that you might find in a google search. From what I recall you would have to go to the new top of the line headphones for a big step up.
