This matches my US-made disc with cat. no. B0000868-36 and matrix S28510-C 3 (someone with better eyes may see this slightly differently, if so, trust them!).

Hmmm! This does not match my copy:

    MCA (C) 1980, 1984 Made In USA MCAD-37220 DIDX 56 (no barcode)
Matrix: MCAD-37220-3RE 1C1I MFD BY JVC (the 1I is scratched in the disc, it could be a / instead of an I)
    EAC: 96.9 % - 88.0 % - 94.9 % - 92.7 % - 92.1 % - 95.2 % - 90.4 %

    And here's one more:

MCA (C) 1980 Made In England MCLD 19146 (on artwork)/DMCL 1814 (on disc)
Matrix: DMCL 1814 . MASTERED BY NIMBUS
    EAC: 75.9 % - 70.8 % - 79.3 % - 78.8 % - 77.9 % - 83.0 % - 83.1 %

Going by my Russian pressing (which probably doesn't count :D), this would be:

    96.9/88.0/94.9/97.7/92.1/95.2/90.4

Can you verify this, Black Elk?

Thank you! I re-ripped with two different drives and it's 97.7 each time. Either there's a problem with my disc or there's an unknown source for this "black market" copy. All other tracks match yours.

That's a TON of masterings, but I've got one last one. This is the rare first Japan CD issue (3500 Yen), VDP-26, pressed by Victor Music. There are a number of peak values that hit 100.0, but the wave chart still shows excellent dynamics. It's cool to have, but to me, it doesn't sound quite as good as the later Japan for MCA, or the MOFI.

    Track 1 100.0
    Track 2 100.0
    Track 3 100.0
    Track 4 97.8
    Track 5 99.3
    Track 6 100.0
    Track 7 96.1

The only thing that surprises me here, and only slightly at that, are that 1 and 2 are different. I thought MCA might have been sloppy and used the 2000 remaster for the CD layer. They probably used the DSD master and converted it to PCM, as they should have. I have never listened to the CD layer, but I bet it sounds good. The SACD layer sounds great.

It has been well documented that the original MCA, 2000, and box set issues are different masterings.

EDIT: I just saw your most recent post. The 32XD disc interests me, as I have not listened to it critically yet. We need to confirm that the Japanese CBS/Sony pressing for the U.S. market with "DIDX-56" in the matrix code has the same mastering as the Japanese JVC pressing for the U.S. market.

I have this disc but have not yet compared it to other versions. Your observations concerning the sound to do not surprise me, as I found the VDP Aja disc to be disappointing when compared to the Japan-for-U.S. pressings and the Japanese 32XD issue.
