I'm in love with this album, once again. The forum had more than a few harsh words for the album when it was released in 2003. Yes, it doesn't match Katy Lied, Aja, Countdown to Ecstasy, The Royal Scam, etc...but I find it a welcome addition to their catalogue.

    You?

It's the only Steely Dan album that I don't love. And I love "Two Against Nature" even...

    I'm a fan
Things I Miss the Most, Green Book, Lunch With Gina and the title track are all vintage Dan

it's the duds on side one that taint EMG
Blues Beach, The Last Mall and Slang of Ages

The rest of the album is brilliant

    recorded in analog
    probably their most spontaneous session

combine it with the best of Morph

    Great Pagoda of Fun
    Security Joan
    The Night Belongs to Mona
    That's What I Do

    you have a stellar bit

I saw that tour and it was the last adventuresome one set list wise

There's fewer duds to it with the benefit of 14 years' worth of hindsight, and it's a great final statement if they are really done.

Slang Of Ages (the Becker vocal track) is the only one I'm not fond of, but it nicely set up Circus Money, which I really love.

I didn't like it when I first bought it in 2003. I was excited for some fresh Dan, and it just didn't deliver. Many years later, the album has really grown on me (maybe I've matured?), to the point I reach for it when friends are over, and when the evening needs some tunes that are smooth and relaxing. I've had several guests over the years, take a sip of wine and release a relaxing sigh, while saying "this is nice" as this album was playing in the background. I'm not saying it's of the same caliber as their first 6 albums, but it's close.

Of all the Dan releases, this is one I've still yet to listen to or obtain; from some of the posts here, it looks like I'll have to give it a listen. Thanks guys!

I have release with the bonus Taxicab Confessions SD episode, gotta love Walter and Donald's wicked sense of humor...

Yup, since this will be the last studio SD album most likely.

I agree 100%! Excellent 5.1 mix of a great Steely Dan album. "Everything Must Go" is not my favorite Steely Dan album but it's a fun listen especially in 5.1 :).

There's lots of songs from this LP that are in my first draft of my musical based on the songs of Becker & Fagen. Can't find a way to shoehorn "Pixeleen" in though.

Until recently, I was never crazy about the album and hardly listened to my DVD-A. I was looking for a cheap CD to burn in tubes and headphones and found a copy of this at a thrift shop. I've listened to this so much over the last year I've grown to love it.
It's not going to make the list of all time great Dan albums, but it is a great album in it's own right.

I love this album. Easily in my Top 5. I remember getting excited and seeing "Blues Beach" on Napster before the cd came out, downloaded it and it was an old song instead. Tried multiple times and had the same issue, on dial up, no less.
Anyways, I have to say that I can easily listen to this one all of the way through, and I usually skip tracks on their other albums.

Got the ceedee when it first came out, but got the LP few months later...another great sounding SD record.

I’ve always enjoyed this album, especially Godwhacker and the title track. I would rate it a little higher than Two Against Nature, if only because that album feels a lot less organic.

  25. I like it quite a bit and liked it upon release. In fact, I think it's better than "Two Against Nature" and comparable to some of their classic material.
