I'm surprised they don't get Jethro Tull to sit in on vocals.

Yes, I've seen Martin 3 times without Tull and he's awesome. I can't say same about Ian.

Well, why don't you just merge both threads into one?

Actually, Donald Fagen wanted to use a name other than "Steely Dan" for the post-Becker Dan, but booking agents insisted on his using the name. Personally, I'm, okay with him using "Steely Dan." I don't think it's disrespectful to the memory of Walter Becker and I don't think the music suffers either.

Interesting, particularly since he and Becker's estate are in a legal battle over usage of the name

What the world needs is a "Steely Dan Sound" tour with Baxter and Dias in the band.

I think it’s appropriate to have it as Steely Dan. Unlike other groups, for me the name Steely Dan represents the songs that Donald and Walter wrote, rather than an actual band that played them.

The "taboo" of having multiple threads about the same thing has always seemed ridiculous to me anyway.

I can see not wanting ten threads on the same topic on the front page at the same time, but sometimes it seems like people are like, "Whoa--foul! There was already a thread about this back in 2003 with five replies."

Thank you, especially when no specific thread covers this topic.

It also had been agreed to when they began the partnership. I think that if Donald had died Walter would not opt to tour as the Dan though.

  16. That wouldn't work. Steely Dan is not a metal band. ;-)

Fagen has been quoted as saying he'd be happy just touring as "Donald Fagen plays the music of Steely Dan" or something similar, but that the venues and promoters are requesting the Steely Dan name. I think he said that on the Rolling Stone podcast late last year.

Generally because 10 new Beatles ones pop up and any other thread gets washed away down the line in a matter of hours

I don't have a problem with him using the name. Blaming the booking agents is kind of a weasel-ly way to say, "I'm going to get more money".

Touring without Walter Becker seems the only option at this point in time, unfortunately.

That was before Becker died. The show here in Portland for the next day was canceled.
