MOFI has recently said there are some big surprises coming up in their "One Step" release

Could Steely Dan's Two Against Nature be an upcoming release?

    1) It's a sure seller

    2) It is a spectacular record and won 4 Grammys in 2000

    3) It has never been released on vinyl (excluding euro bootleg from cd)

    4) Hi rez 24/192 files are available

    5) Donald Fagen has been much more prone to releasing material since Walter Becker's passing

Please submit an inquiry to Mofi

I wouldnt buy it. So for me it isnt a sale. Would be one more title wasted imo. Ill be writing them not support it but to voice the opposite.

I'm pretty sure it was an official release, not a bootleg. Can't comment on the quality though, I haven't heard it.

No kidding, would like to see titles done that actually need help. (Especially at this pricepoint)

I would prefer MFSL One Steps be from first gen, original analog tapes.

    Check the ST website
It's buried in there unless they took it down but Walter makes a plea that it is a knockoff and not official vinyl and to AVOID it

The Nightfly was a nice Step up early digital "on tape"

any analog recordings you have in mind?

    Walter's Quote
    there are analog backups

Everything Must Go was done in analog

    found the quote!

MOFI standard release? Not One Step
Now that I think about it - yes
merely stating a potential rumour as they said they had some big surprises

Yes - less spent on a high demand superior sounding and first time available vinyl release.
No huge box of unnecessary packaging and no big "flippers" initially

    2vN on Vinyl???

    TWO AGAINST NATURE ON VINYL?

Below is WB's text written for a recent newsletter
There have been questions now and again about the prospect of vinyl pressings of the "Two Against Nature" album. We have not mastered such a disc as of this time and so anything that you see out there along these lines is an unauthorized version. Such a pressing would incorporate all the limitations of digital audio (frequency response limit, converter artifacts, etc.) plus all the limitations of vinyl (phase shift, limited frequency response, noise, distortion, etc.). Also, such a pressing would also not have been done by us and so the aesthetic compromises made to master the album to vinyl would represent someone else's taste and judgement (or the lack thereof) and so I suggest you give this one a miss.
However, at the time the album was mixed, a set of high quality analog master mixes was made along with the digital ones, and, knowing that some people still prefer the vinyl format, we are exploring the idea of using these tapes to make a vinyl pressing at some time in the future. We'll keep you posted on this possibility as time goes on.

I have it. Certainly official but skimpy packaging and not a great pressing. I believe it was not from the analogue tape which is probably why Steely Dan objected to it. The question is why they didn't put out an approved analogue sourced version at the time? Probably at the low point of vinyl sales.

Walter states that this "unofficial" release was not done with any mixing or mastering input from them

I believe this only showed up in Europe (made in England) - initially away from the gazing eyes of Donald and Walter

Kind of settles it in my mind

Steely Dan - Two Against Nature (Vinyl, Europe, 2000) For Sale | Discogs

$200 - $800 dollars to have this in your possession?

There is a 24/192 approved hi rez digital file available that came out the last couple years
    or the DVD-A

Ahhh. Wasn't expecting this response! Excellent choice. I'm so sick of the usual suspects getting the royal treatment. Plus the bassline from Rio is killing. And still kicks my behind...

I'm all in with a One Step pressing of Two Against Nature, since it's one of my favorite SD albums and also because it's recorded well from the start. I passed on all the others since I'm kinda done with the 45RPM thing. Mainly because 45's are a PITA to play, and that MOFI stuff was just the same ole **** anyway. But I'd buy this. It grooves like effin' mad.

Well, I dunno if you can make a bad mastering magical just with a special recording process. You have to start with something the engineer can work with.

True. I think that's probably why we don't see more later 90's titles being done. The damage may already have been done.

If their Instagram response to my post is any indication, I think we will see a One Step from The Cure, The Smiths, New Order or Joy Division in the near future.

This would be the first one-step I’d buy (and wouldn’t have to think about it a second).

    Outstanding album!

Wonder if the Get Ready tapes went up in flames Jim. Just thought about this.
It was the only one not given a remaster during the vinyl/hi-rez campaign.

Joy Division - either album - tack Love will Tear Us Apart on the end with a gap preceeding it and I'll gladly go for that

The UK Factory original pressings are wonderful

Right. This record is digital and ain’t worth doing, IMO.

I thought the same of The Nightfly, and I hope they don’t make that mistake again.

I'd prefer every other SD album (aside from Everything Must Go) to this for One Step Treatment.
