That's weird because his brother from another mother (Peter Tork) had jaw surgery for cancer and now has the same speaking slur.

Yeah. Croz has this penchant for not getting along with dudes that can outfox him ( ahem...Morrison...McCartney...)

If true he's the exception. That drug makes people's songwriting as haggard and gaunt as their bodies. So many examples of this that continue to this day.

Also: Neil Young is a mutant.

His first gold album. He never really worked with Kooper again though; I wonder how Stills feels about that album.

Its a strange record; You get the feeling a lot of partying was going on; I also always thought it was weird that he started back to back songs with the line "When I was young man".

While I think this is probably closer to a one-off rather than generally representative of his current output, it is pretty good and what a fan would hope from Stills in this era. It's good enough to make me look into his newer stuff (with caution).

    Thanks for sharing.

It was essentially the Super Session album that led to The Rides being created. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a big fan of the album and when he got together with Stephen Stills, the aim was to recreate that, if not the album, but the general vibe of the original Super Session. And so what started off as a session led to them forming the band and (so far) two albums and a few tours after they all realised that it was working and everyone was enjoying it.

I like the Stills album too. I think it's probably the most "mature" album Stills made.

When I say "difficult", I think that there is a "sameness" to the production that I'm not fond of. I think having Donnie in the vocal blend makes the sounds a little bland. And ending the album with "Cold Cold World", then "Myth Of Sisyphus" is a bit of a downer. I like those songs, but the sequencing isn't great. Overall, while the album is good, I don't think all of the songs are the same high quality as what he had been doing previously.

Stills is still good for odd song here and there. His songs with the Rides are pretty good. Here is CSNY performing "Don't Want Lies".

Kooper said it wasn't easy to get Atlantic to let him release an album with Stills so he didn't ask Stills again.

This is the end of Stills' golden era IMO. BS/Super session - Stills.

When I started buying records in late 1970 at age 14, Stills was red hot on the charts...his biggest hit "Love the One You're With" had just come out and was all over the radio. I kind of liked the song so I went out and bought it, but I wound up liking the b-side "To A Flame" much more. It became one of my favorite songs and still is...I just love the melody and orchestration. At that time I didn't know much about his history with Buffalo Springfield, but of course CSNY was huge at the time and I liked a lot of their music as well. Also really liked Manassas...I really liked the first Manassas LP that was out in '72.

"To A Flame" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" were the songs that really jump started my interest in Stephen Stills.

Have had this LP for years but had never really spun it. It was sitting in a pile of records that I was intending to perhaps sell.

Just actually pulled it out over this past weekend, it's a damn good record, though I think I prefer the Bloomfield side honestly.

Once in a while artists contribute to this board and it's truly magical. Imagine if Stephen were to show up here and answer some questions?

what i never understood is why stills does not sing a single note on that whole album side. this was right after the springfield and his voice might have been the best it ever was right around then.

Kooper wrote in his book that he thought having Stills sing would make it harder to get permission from Atlantic. Also from what he wrote it wasn't really Stills's album, Bloomfield was supposed to do it all but he bailed halfway through.

On the other hand, in 1976, he contributed "Make Love To You", "Black Coral", and "Guardian Angel" to Long May You Run. I consider "12/8 Blues (All The Same)" to be an average track.

In 1977, he contributed "Dark Star", "Run From Tears", "I Give You Give Blind", "Fair Game", and "See The Changes" (1973) to the CSN album.

I extend his "golden era" to the CSN album for this reason. I think those are some of his best songs.

Stills songs are arguably better than Neil's tossed off trivialities on the shared album, bar the title track.

I would argue that Stills’ best songs at that moment made it onto this album and are representative of low grade porn music. While Neil was forced to try and not show up his friend by contributing the 4 weakest songs he had, songs with great melodies and interesting lyrics. (...and one good single so they could actually get some sales.)
