    Not really, but the stuff Dowd did isn't enough to make me dislike those stereo versions...

    Well, trust me, on the big Westlake studio monitors I work with, the top end boost on those Stax stereo things is quite annoying. ESPECIALLY since there really doesn't seem to be much top end to work with on the original tapes. Basically, Atlantic was just trying to add some 6K to everything, and the top end boost was an accident. I think that was their main goal. The top end boost was not what they had in mind. But Tom Dowd told me himself that their monitors didn't even reach 8K so they couldn't hear the damage they were doing to the delicate sound of the original tapes.

    They should have been more careful!
