Rolling Stone is reporting that Steve Miller is opening up the vaults for his newest compilation.

Track Lists for all releases below.

Steve Miller Band will release a career-spanning compilation, Ultimate Hits, on September 15th via Capitol/UMe. The set includes several previously unreleased tracks, including a live version of 1969's "Space Cowboy," premiering exclusively via Rolling Stone. The galloping blues-rock tune – which appeared in studio form on the band's third LP, 1969's Brave New World – climaxes with a lengthy guitar solo.

Miller, the band's frontman, guitarist and chief songwriter, produced and compiled Ultimate Hits. The collection, which launches Miller's new partnership with Capitol, will be available in multiple formats: a one-CD and digital edition with 22 tracks (three previously unreleased); an expanded two-CD edition with 40 tracks (eight previously unissued); and deluxe, 2-LP and 4-LP 180-gram vinyl versions, out October 27th.

The one-CD and standard digital editions include hits like "Take the Money and Run," "The Joker" and "Fly Like an Eagle," along with two unreleased live recordings ("Space Cowboy" and "Living in the USA") and one previously unissued studio cut (a solo Miller version of "Seasons"). The two-CD and deluxe digital versions feature five additional live and studio rarities, including a demo for "Take the Money and Run."

"Selecting material to include in these two collections and revisiting the creation of these recordings, I'm reminded of how I learned to make multi-track recordings from Les Paul and play lead guitar from T Bone Walker," Miller said in a statement. "I've been blessed to work with so many wonderful musicians and engineers and friends over the years. Mostly I want to thank you our fans who come out to our shows and listen to our records. I hope you enjoy this as much I did putting this together for you."

Galloping blues-rock tune? I guess Rolling Stone cut their budget.

You know, I used to have 8-tracks of those two albums back in the day and imho, hindsight being 20/20 and all that, they really aren't that good except for a few songs. There's also certainly not a "hit" to be seen on either album. Add to that Steve Miller has gone on record as just not liking them, and their absence from this new "hits" comp starts to become clearer.

This new comp, like most of them is aimed at the casual fan. True SM fans already have this stuff and/or the 2 albums you mention. They are now out on cd and available on Amazon as downloads.

Maybe some hardcore fans will be sucked in with these unreleased live tracks, who knows. That first disc in the 2 cd Deluxe Edition looks pretty good as far as that goes....

I would have liked to have seen the early version of Mercury Blues on it as well as Rock Love.

Anyone know of the mastering? I'm hoping all analog, if not, I'll pass. (Got all this stuff anyway, excepting the live.)

An all-analog SMB greatest hits? I'm thinking zero chance of that.

    (Would love to be wrong.)

One of my least favorite things is when any "Hits" set, but especially one with "Ultimate Hits" in the title substitute the original recordings with live versions of those songs.

Oh, and I don't like the cover. :D

It looks like a combination of a third rate Hipgnosis rip off combined with the flying horse logo thing plopped in the middle of it.

There are doing it to entice diehard fans to buy it. I understand that they think the people who already have all of the albums might not buy it otherwise.

Yeah, I understand the marketing angle, but subbing seven live tracks for the originals in the single disc version is just wrong IMO. There are 22 tracks and seven out of that 22 are live versions, not the original recordings.

The die hard fans are probably going to want the 2 CD version anyway.

By the way, I goofed up in my previous post. I'm posting from work and when I was scrolling up I mistook the single CD version from the first disc of the two CD set.

The single CD has only one two live tracks replacing the originals, which is still two too many live tracks replacing original tracks on it for me. :D

Nowhere near enough from the first five albums. Where's "Goin to the Country" (an actual hit single, if a minor one) and "Jackson-Kent Blues"?

  24. Imho his best albums are the first five. But I'm happy he finally broke out big and made a ton of $$$$$$. But like Fleetwoud Mac who finally broke in 1975, all of their and Miller more groundbreaking albums came before the big giant commercial hit years.

But good for them. I love when Musician's finally cash in.

Off topic, but would it make any sense to combine the Rock Love studio side cuts with the whole of Recall the Beginning?
