STEVEN SPIELBERG thinks action legend Indiana Jones is finally ready for the ultimate adventure — to be played by a woman.

The director knows he would risk fan fury by casting an actress in the role made famous by Harrison Ford, 75, but he believes it is time the explorer took “a different form”.

In an exclusive interview, Spielberg nodded when asked if this new-look Jones could be female, and added: “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.”​

No, a woman should never play James Bond, Indiana Jones, or any other established male character. Otherwise, I want a man to play Ripley in the next Aliens and also one to be the next Wonder Woman. Hey, fair is fair.

Well, Ripley is a pretty gender neutral name and as for Wonder Woman, bit tough to change as the gender (woman) is embedded in her handle. Perhaps she could be transgender?

 

Isn't the name of the female Indiana Jones Lara Croft. Not a new or radical concept.

I like action heroines. That's probably the reason I loved so much of Joss Whedon's stuff.

 

I'm all for females playing action / leads Atomic Blonde/Tomb Raider /Resident Evil in their own original concept roles in films. What next a female Shaft?
