Iron Giant so deserves blu-ray "special edition" treatment. The film's writer/director Brad Bird thinks so, too, but Warner Brothers apparently is unconvinced. Last year, Brad asked fans of the movie to tweet WB ("Let them know; @WBHomeEnt") and request a special blu-ray for one of the best sci-fi movies (animated or live) of all-time.

Does anyone have any updates on BR status?

There are no serials that I know of on blu-ray.

Flash Gordon, Captain Marvel, Dick Tracy, Rocketman, Spy Smasher - perhaps these are niche items, but a company like Olive Films could do an outstanding job with the genre, like they have with b-westerns.

The Dark Knight Rises - missed it on cinematic release in 2012, finally got a chance to watch it. I had heard negative things, but I thought it was pretty good, if a notch below its predecessor.

I can't find a copy of "Who's Afraid..." in Australia for love or money. Amazon have it but I think the region codes are a problem. Would my Sony BD player play a dvd with US region coding?

  10. If "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?" is a Warner release, it won't be region-restricted...they make all of their international releases that way to save on manufacturing costs...

I have the 2006 Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton DVD box set, which includes Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

I'm out of the house at the moment, so unable to check personally, but, according to Beaver, it's encoded for regions 1 through 4:

Looking at this old thread, since I posted my want list, there's been an excellent Criterion release of "Nashville" and a very well done "Howling II" blu-ray. "Last American Virgin" is out now, though in a pretty poor barebones release. No progress on the others, as far as I know.

Criterion released a dual-format (Blu and DVD) edition of PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK last year. And there is an Australian Blu of GALLIPOLI, but I'm assuming you're referring to Region A releases.

I am. I have the Criterion "Picnic At Hanging Rock". I didn't know about the Aussie blu-ray of "Gallipoli", but I don't have a region free player so wouldn't be able to watch it.

  19. I'd like "The Young Poisoner's Handbook" on blu-ray. The DVD is flawed.

  23. The Aussie blu-ray of Gallipoli appears to be an All Region disc (A+B+C). I saw this one in a store today (the commemorative edition) and it said Region ABC on the back (ignore what the website below says about B only)....
