Last New Year's I resolved to hold off buying new CDs I knew would eventually show up at BMG Music Club, and await one of their better deals. While I didn't stick to that promise 100%, I was pretty good about it, and the coffers are filling with discs I probably would have paid retail for a couple years ago.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a large order that will come to $4.91/disc, shipping included. Imagine going into a record store with those prices! Below is a list of what's in my cart. Anyone got anything to warn me off any of these discs? Anyone know of any more prizes on the website I should order?

The B-52's - Nude On The Moon: The B-52's Anthology
Ornette Coleman - The Complete Science Fiction Sessions (Remastered)
Ornette Coleman - Skies Of America (Remastered)
Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde (SACD Hybrid)
Bob Dylan - Desire (SACD Hybrid)
Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (SACD Hybrid)
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited (SACD Hybrid)
Bob Dylan - Love And Theft (SACD Hybrid)
Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline (SACD Hybrid)
Aretha Franklin - Amazing Grace: The Complete Recordings
Aretha Franklin - One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism (Remastered)
Aretha Franklin - You Grow Closer
Funkadelic - The Electric Spanking Of War Babies (Remastered)
    Funkadelic - Hardcore Jollies (Remastered)
Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove (Remastered)
Funkadelic - Uncle Jam Wants You (Remastered)
Marvin Gaye - I Want You (Deluxe Edition) (Remastered)
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On (Deluxe Edition) (Remastered)

I love the BMG sales. I ALWAYS overbuy. I am more willing to try stuff that I would normally not even consider. I am a member of both BMG and Columbia House. I love BMG (yes there are problems, but overall I have been very satisfied). CH, on the other hand, is one of the coldest companies on the web. And their website seems to be always down, plus their prices do not come close to BMG most of the time. Long live BMG!

Hmmm, no code for me this month. Just the standard, buy one, get two free, and then unlimited CDs at $2.99. With $2.59 shipping each(!), you get fairly new CDs for close to $5.58. Beats paying $13.99 at BB or $18.99 at Tower. They used to have unlimited $1.99 specials, but I haven't seen this for 3-4 months.

Thank you for reminding me! I got the e-mail but accidentally deleted it. Wow, these will be even cheaper than $4.91/disc! Time to do more shopping -- bet they have the Parliament remasters by now.

Not a bad deal. Not their best. (The best was about a year ago or so, when I they had a buy-one-get-unlimited-at-$1.99-per-CD-and-FREE-SHIPPING. Bought HUNDREDS of CDs at $2 per CD ($4 per double) shipped...)

I don't see the deal you're seeing, though. Mine is Buy-One-Get-Two-Free and then unlimited at $2.99 (plus 10% off order with code). Ho-hum on that one...

Fill us in the promotion code you have. Is it by 1 get 2 free plus 10%??

    I'm confused.

Re: Re: Stop Me Before I Blow Up The BMG Music Website Server!

My mistake! I didn't realize the website's per disc calculator already takes into account the number of discs in each set -- I assumed it was calculated per title -- so I incorrectly adjusted for double-disc sets twice. My real cost/disc is $6.01 with the discount.

Still, how many times do you walk into a record store with a $5.99/disc sale going on? Wish they had the Elvis Presley Vegas box, though . . . Man, I'm having a hard time keeping it under $200.

But the poor artists get shafted on the royalties when you do this...funny how the labels like to talk about how downloading hurts artists...oh the irony.

(Yes, I do buy club CDs...lots of them, from CH and BMG)

Does anyone know if you can break this up - and do several orders of 1 + 2 free?

The artists sign off on this "promotional" device when they sign their major label contract. Now whether an artist actually needs the promotion of record clubs to sell concert tickets in Madison, Spokane or Santa Fe in the age of MTV, Clear Channel Broadcasting, and Internet retailers is another debate, but unlike wholesale file-swapping, they do put pen to paper authorizing it.

Damn! I could have done some damage today if I had known about that code! I think we should set up a little thread (or forum) that tells of the latest deals/promotion codes at BMG.

It's cheaper to pile it all on one order. The first three discs are more than $2.99 each.

    Thanks Ron.

I just noticed they have The Beatles "Pepper" and "Abbey Road."

    That's a first...no?

They are full price and don't count as part of the sale.
