Years ago a friend of one of the guys in the band I was in got married. They had a tape deck to play the traditional reception stuff but also wanted a rock band so we played a few sets. We opened up with "Hey Joe" by Hendrix. While we were playing it, I remember walking over to our guitar player and asking him if we really should be playing a song right now about a guy named Joe, who "shoots his old lady down". The groom's name was Joe! Fortunately when I apologized to him during a break, he thought it was hilarious. It's amazing that none of us thought about how inappropriate it was beforehand.

Just be glad you all had ANY music at your receptions. When I got married (wedding paid for by my inlaws), there was neither music NOR alcohol at the reception. Just people sitting around at tables. :(

    PS...We are no longer married.

My wedding - and shows how tolerant my wife is - was short and then I went back to studio to finish engineering a recording session for a band before we left for our honeymoon.

I proposed to my wife with the Monks song, I Hate You (But Call Me)...

Friends of mine were at a wedding where the DJ played Fools Gold, the twelve minute Heaton Park live version.

I used to dj a lot of weddings.
    Two memorable songs were
As the newlyweds enter the reception, they wanted Ted Nugent -Stranglehold

Another time, the wedding party wanted to dance to Black Sabbath - War Pigs

I did one where later in the evening the groom wanted a bunch of live moe. played. That actually went over pretty well.

I had a reception where they insisted on nothing but Skynyrd. Nothing else.....

Two songs I liked to slip in were
Moody Blues - This is the Moment
Marty Stuart - So Many People

We played "Stupidly Happy" by XTC at our wedding reception. Not really that obscure...

At our wedding I called the DJ and asked him to make sure he had plenty of Rock Music, he didn't even have Brown Sugar just all this soul, disco, chart garbage, the dance floor was empty. Then he announced the Bride and Groom record, some Lionel Richie s***e, I was fuming....

About a month before my wedding, I met with the band who would be playing our reception and took them the sheet music to "Sugar Magnolia" by the Grateful Dead along with a cassette with about 8 live versions of the song. I asked them to learn the song so it could be our second dance. They learned it, and did a very good job. My wife was surprised and loved it.

I also asked the band to play as many songs the Dead/Jerry covered as they could -- Good Lovin', Dancin' in the Streets, How Sweet It Is, Second That Emotion, etc. Whenever the band played one of these, my Deadhead friends would swarm the dance floor and boogie like the punch bowl had been spiked (it wasn't) to the amazement of our parents and their generation.

Tom Cruise sang "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to Katie Holmes after they exchanged vows. I'd say that was pretty odd, but then again so is Tom.

Did you crash out wedding too? We told a whole bunch of friends who were Clampetts fans that weren’t invited to the wedding that they could come after 9. We figured that by that time, a lot of the older folks would be leaving and we could just have a dance party for the rest of the night!

No, I didn't crash your wedding.

The memories are of seeing the Clampetts in various clubs around the area.
Most notably Mother's in Kent. Good times!

  22. We just played the Stooges and Sabbath, too bad the Funhouse box was not available at the time

I saw them all over the place as well. Great live band. Over the last few years they’ve been doing shows around the holidays.
