Streaming question

this may be a stupid question, but aside from connecting a computer to a dac is there any inexpensive device that can stream the audio from a YouTube video to a dac? I have replaced my Mac mini with an Innuos server which sounds great, but I can no longer listen to YouTube videos through my system.

help, please!!!

I would check Apple TV, Roku or devices like those.

 

As beowulf mentioned, the Apple TV could probably be used. It has an optical digital output which you could send to an external DAC...although the sound quality on Youtube would probably not be that good anyway to be concerned about using external DACs. Unless I'm using a very much different Youtube downunder

I’ve no personal experience of it but could stream from handheld device to it and use the Toslink out?

 

Squeezebox Touch with the You Tube plug in, I believe.

 

I think they removed the optical connection from the ATV 4th gen.

 

Thanks, although wouldn’t Bluetooth degrade the already compressed YouTube audio?

 

If you can find a Chromecast Audio (now-discontinued) it's just what you're looking for.

 

@Melvin is correct about the Chromecast Audio.
If you decide to go that way, let me know if you can't find one. I have one (unopened) that I could part with.

 

I fairly regularly use audio over Bluetooth and in the main it’s probably Sufficient for any YouTube sourced audio. Having said that the Chromecast suggestion above sounds like a very good option.

Just did a quick search and saw an 2016 article stating it was now possible.

 

I tried it with success this morning before posting my earlier response (just in case).
