    Cheers Roman,
It is only my personal view, but by attaching additional tubes to make it possible to attach the new cantilever you increase the mass of the moving assembly and the cartridge will behave and sound different.
I believe these cartridge should be repaired as close to the original as possible.
You certainly have good hands and skills, but I don't think this is the right way to retie cartridges.

Please discuss in more detail. I understand that by adding an attachment tube, that increases mass. But (1) the tube is far away from the tip, so addition to effective mass is not so bad, and (2) it really makes a rigid and reliable connection.

What other way is possible that is less mass but equal in reliable connection?

Based on the experience of forum members, which are the 2-3 cartridge options that one can find cheaply (when damaged) on ebay and after re-cantilevering and retipping by Roman can become GREAT cartridges, far better than their original version?
By the way, I have a Dynavector 10x4 with a broken cantilever and a Denon DL-103 (S/N 5800 !!), which is still working fine. Should I try to have them retyped by Roman, or should I better look out for other opportunities and when I find one, have than retipped, much like what Warren does?

Maybe I've missed it -so I apologize- in this rather long, yet quite detailed and very interesting thread, but what is the usual turnaround time for having a cartridge retipped by Roman?
    Thanks.

Just came back from my vacation... I have been busy a little bit since the beginning of June, because I bought a new car and spent a lot of time with her.
    Sorry for my late replies!

Usually it takes about few weeks to get cartridge retipped, sometimes even faster or a little bit longer.
Depends on how many cartridges is already waiting for their turn.
Also depends on a difficulty of work.
And depends on my free time, because I've got my typical everyday office job too.

    Exactly!
For example - Denon DL-103 or DL-103R, this cartridge will sound far a way better with a new cantilver made of BORON and with a better diamond shape (Micro-Line for example). Also, it will be much more better with a different body (wood or metal body).
Few weeks ago I have finished to work on Denon DL-103R - it was retipped with a Boron/Micro-Line + wood body (instead of original plastic body).
And this Denon started to sound just amazing after all of those upgrades, like an expensive top of the line cartridge!

There is so many ways how to retipp the cartridge and it's always depends on a cartridge construction!
Every work with the cartridge is individual.
Some cartridges just cant be retipped without adding additional tubes and I'm always trying to reduce the weight of a tubes by removing layers of a tube by sand paper. So it's not a big deal with adding weight, it's just milligrams and it's not audible in the final results.

    Hello Roman,

I hope I am sending this the right way as I am a novice at these forums!

I have an Entre 1 MC cartridge that needs a new cantilever and stylus after an unfortunate accident. The cantilever is completely missing.

Can you fix this type of damage?

About how much would it cost?

I will be in Moscow in around 10 days so I could bring it with me and just local post it to you.

Very impressed with your work, such great skills!

    Cheers

There are an unlimited number of at-one-time great carts that appear on ebay with broken cantilevers. It comes down to having a memory, from the past, what some of the great ones were. For example, some I remember are any Monster, Accuphase, Madrigal, GAS Sleeping Beauty and many more. These were all low output MC carts, because these are what interest ME. I don't care for high output carts. Others of us may prefer high-output MCs, MMs, or even MIs.

Then, my favorite resource is Roman for retipping them. He does a very good job, and has already done about 10 for me, simply an overblown collection now for me of better-than-new rebuilds. I dont recommend a "collection"; but rather just one nice cart that Roman has retipped to better-than-new, from which you can hear great sound. All of my carts, that he has done for me, now have a boron cantilever and either MicroRidge or MicroLine stylus shape.

If enough people want more, I can start another group buy, directly from Namiki again. I will only do Boron cantilever with MicroRidge stylus, though. And I will have to get a new quote from Namiki.

    Hello Ray!
I just replied to you via mailbox, check it out!

p.s. Thanks to everybody in here for your interest to my work and keeping this thread alive.
I have started to get more orders and it's a pleasure to work with your cartridges!

Special thanks to Warren for everything, you helped me a lot in this retipping subject!

I've been busy a little bit during this summer, that's why there was no any updates on my new works, but soon I will post a lot of retipped cartridges that was done during last month's and I still got about 10 cartridges to finish with.

Roman, it has truly been my pleasure to know you and work with you (on my cartridges, that is). You've become a good friend who I respect and enjoy learning from.

Big thanks to Roman and Warren!

My Zu DL103 came back with an updated boron/micro ridge from the standard conical. Wow what an improvement! Increased detail and more focused image... really just a more refined sound. Also I could never overcome some IGD with the conical regardless of setup. Completely gone and not an issue after the retip.

Roman was such a pleasure to do business with. Looking forward to our next project. Cheers!

    Hello Lucas,

So far, there jas not been enough interest, this time, to make an order. I will continue to keep a list, though, of everyone who inquires. Maybe there will be others to finally accumulate an acceptable quantity.
