Thanks Warren, Thats a shame I read the list a couple of months too late - put me down for 5 if you get enough interested for a second run.
If you have the data sheet or dimensions could you please forward them to me.

    Regards

I've just had my DL-103R retipped and repotted with an aluminum body by Roman. I am expecting it to arrive, hopefully next week. I will report first impressions ASAP.

I know this thread has evolved into some deep discussion about material properties. First of all aren't some aluminum cantilevers a magnesium/aluminum alloy such as aircraft aluminum? And why can't or isn't magnesium used as a cantilever material? I also thought AT tried making cantilevers out of carbon or carbon fiber but they didn't seem to catch on or didn't sound that great?I know there was an AT150ti with titanium cantilever seemed as if it was only for sale in japan?
Why hasn't anyone mentioned mass of the material used? I know that diamond, ruby, boron carbide are stiffer than aluminum but are also much more massive and more difficult to manufacture into tubes than solid rods?I would think mass would have significant effect on how the cartridge sounds and would certainly effect the tracking ability.

The material's ratio of stiffness to density (mass of the material volume required to provide the desired stiffness) is the primary factor in determining cantilever performance. But machinability is the 2nd factor, because a hollow tube is preferable to solid material, just like bicycle frame material.

In order of excellence for a cantilever, the best are diamond, boron, beryllium, ruby and sapphire (identical properties), aluminum, steel.

I've just mounted my retipped DL-103R on my Audiomods Series 5 cartridge and all I can say that it was definitely worth it! Detail, transparency, effortlessness. Many thanks, Roman.

Exactly the sentiments I have about EVERY cartridge that Roman has done for me.

regarding the nakimi diamond tipped boron cantilevers that warren was selling, it looks like mine may be available, as the cartridge it was intended for is dead. so if anyone's interested, pm me.

I also forgot to mention reduced noise, great separation and wide and deep soundstage. I wonder whether the sound will further improve after a few hours.

No doubt, it's definitely worth to retip Denon 103 series with a boron cantilevers and swap original body to aluminum/magnesium or wood body!
Tested in practice many times and everybody was definitelly satisfied with such uprgrade's!
Right now I've got another one Denon 103 from a forum member (Stephen), his Denon is already upgraded to aluminum body (same body as Panos gave me for swap), so I'm going just to swap original aluminum cantilever on a boron cantilever with Micro-Ridge diamond shape that was produced by Namiki Japan and organized for a group buy by Warren (special thanks to Warren for doing that for the forum members!).

CORRECTION: As a matter of fact, Audiomods Series 5 is the make/type of my tonearm, not cartridge. Apologies for the typo.

Is there a new group buy thread somewhere? I could use three.

Hi, what an amazingly interesting thread, and i hope that im not too late to offer the Russian gentleman a Denon DL 304 that would love to be united with a Boron / Micro-Ridge diamond. May i inquire on a quote for this work?
I have a 1983 Koetsu Black with a van den Hul retip. I am using this at present as the Denon cantilever is damaged, but if I could get the Denon up to 90% of what it was, it would be the far better option.

    Hi Roman

    Can you change Ortofon 2M spherical R 65μm to spherical R 25μm?

Folks who've had Roman do a retip: did you get any tracking update whatsoever between it leaving Russia and landing in your local USPS network?

Mine was mailed almost two weeks ago and "departed from export office" more than a week ago, but hasn't had any movement since. I expected it to land stateside at some point and get a tracking ping, since I can see it in both the EMS and USPS tracking sites...

Ah well... I'm sure it's going to be fine, I've been ordering stuff from all over the world and sometimes things just disappear on tracking sites and then re-appear again. 17Track has been the best for me, but sometimes things go off the radar.
For one particular package I had to use 4 different websites to track it from shipment to arrival, each time I wasn't told to which carrier it was transferred. I'm sure it will arrive, you just have to have the patience of a saint.
I ordered a bunch of art-books from Tx a few years ago, took just under 100 days to reach me...no explanation was ever given, it wasn't shipped somewhere else or held up in customs limbo..it just took its time.
    Best of luck !

I have had Roman do about 8 of my carts, each returned by EMS in about 1 to 2 weeks, never a problem, and always tracking available from both the internet and from my local post office.

Again, Roman has done about 8 retips, with the Boron and MR stylus. All have come back sounding better than new.

I was so pleased with the retipping that Roman did on my Denon DL-103R (with Namiki boron cantilever and micro ridge stylus) and also potted in an aluminum body, that now I am going to send him a wooden body (Cocobolo) for retipping my second DL-103R. I am curious how the two (aluminum and wooden) will compare with each other...
