i'll add 'Ice Station Zebra' as my next one to buy and check out, thanks everybody for the recommendations on sub movies.
got a cheap copy of this one, another B grade or C grade TV drama film..... In terms of facts, I'd take it with a grain of salt obviously:
Not a movie, but the Star Trek episode "Balance of Terror" is a submarine movie played in space, with the Romulan ship the sub and the Enterprise the surface ship in pursuit.
Does that go under another title? I tries looking it up at IMDB and couldn't find it. Looked in Kenneth Cranham's credits and don't see it listed. Too bad its a a B or C grade thing. Are there any other modern movies about the sinking of the Lusitania? Edit: Finally found it. It's at IMDB as "Sinking Of The Lusitania: Terror At Sea".
Ha! yeah I was checking, not the first time I've encountered movies with another title. It's an OK film though, you know, it's no 'Das Boot', but neither is any other Sub film.
This is brand new. Hunter Killer In this taut thriller, an unproven submarine captain is tasked with supporting a squad of Navy SEALs in a mission to rescue Russia's president after he's abducted by a rogue general during a military coup.
Wait a sec. I was going to comment on Das Boot, until I read this. This would require you to know tons of languages, yes? Unless you don't watch films in languages you don't know.
'The Wolf's Call' aka 'Le chant du loup' Just watched this one. It's a French film. I watched the English subbed audio version. A netflix film that I thought was very good. IMDb speaks well of it too: Le chant du loup (2019) - IMDb It's no 'Das Boot', but a reasonable B-grade film if your into this genre.
Enjoyed this, too. But my big nagging question at the end was... Spoiler So the Russians didn’t launch a nuclear weapon - ok. But the setup prior to that certainly made it seem like open war between Russia and Europe was likely, and at the end of the film, they just don’t return at all to that topic?
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 1954 The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou My favorite submarine reference in a non-submarine movie is from Throw Mama from the Train.
Watched Das Boot as the BBC Miniseries when I was young and it really stayed with me! Since watched the Theatrical version a couple of times and its worth the effort! Alaaaaaarm! Alaaaaaarm!
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. A perfect film to me, a life long favorite. Great cast, beautifully filmed and written. 10/10 all the way.
Some great choices here I would like to add the Cane Mutiny to the list although not directly a Sub movie... One did give Humphry Bogart a heck of a time
Have you seen Leviathan (1989) ? There are no subs featured in it but it mashes up classic films of hermetic terror, Alien, The Thing and The Abyss
