Allan Holdsworth had success in every band he played in: Tempest, Soft Machine, Gong, and UK. As to whether they were fruitful ventures for him or not, is different matter entirely. I know he quite disliked his time spent with UK. Basically, this band is one of the most interesting when Holdsworth and Bruford were in it as you had two opposing musical camps basically having a tug-of-war with each other, but the musical results of this were so fantastic.
