I'm having some difficulty with records that have been cleaned using AIVS 4-step that come out looking NM, but I'm finding have irritating clicks that I can't get rid of. New records sound good for the most part, but there are some records that definitely shouldn't have the amount of surface noise that they do and it's getting to me. I would like to know which of these is more likely to be the culprit; My stylus is an Ortofon Rondo Red, and my phono pre is a Pro-Ject Tube Box II. I've heard that a cartridge like the Rondo Bronze may help, but another problem may just be cartridge loading which is not an option with the Tube Box SE. What are your recommendations to try and fix this problem, or at least help it a bit. And if the consensus is leaning towards a new phono pre, do you have any recommendations? I have all Pro-Ject stuff because my budget is pretty much for mid-fi gear, and I don't have the luxury of being able to go somewhere and compare a bunch of gear by brands I've never heard of. So I go with gear that is easy to come by and gets decent reviews. I'm up for suggestions. This applies to the cartridge too. I have a little extra money right now that I'm willing to throw at a solution. Also, if it is the phono pre, does anyone have thoughts on solid state vs. hybrid. I don't think I can afford all tubes. Thanks!
