No, as far as I know Vudu is not available here. Though I have the app on my Oppo. But maybe it will end up on Netflix as well, if it's available somewhere else. I'm a bit surprised, because I thought it was a totally obscure film among Russell's output.

I just looked and "Salome's Last Dance" is still available on Vudu, though only in standard definition. Its currently one of their "free with adds" offerings, which is nice. It can also be bought for only $5. Sorry you can't get to it there, but maybe some US people in this thread can check it out. I enjoyed it.

Thanks for the tip, I will look into it. Maybe there's a way to for me to watch it yet.

Because there's nothing in the world as red as John the Baptist's lips.

Not seen the second one, but I would not call Funeral Parade of Roses a surrealist film. The logic is completely rational throughout. There is some disturbing imagery, but not in a dreamlike, non sequitur way.

Really? Maybe I should look a little harder. I was sure there hasn't been a DVD release.

    Good to know.

My mistake! I was thinking of Pastoral, to die in the Country, and uploaded the wrong image:

You could sample the cut doses or go for the full strength tab. Unfortunately it's a somewhat stressful trip. ;)

"Santa Sangre" by Jodorowsky. As close to a straight narrative as he's likely ever gotten, filled with amazing moments.

"The Forbidden Room" by Guy Maddin.

"The Forbidden Zone" by Richard Elfman.

"Songs from the Second Floor" and "You, the Living" by Roy Andersson (his two best out of his triology). Stone-faced, very funny examinations of the misery of human existence.

"A Page of Madness". 1926 silent Japanese film. If you want hard-core abstract, this is it.

I actually had a 16mm print of that movie, back in the 70's, before VCR's. We used to watch 16mm movies with a projector, in our living room.

Alice (Neco Z Alenky) is the most surreal version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland I've ever seen. It has some very creepy stop motion animation. Here is a good compilation of clips:

The 2010 film "Enter The Void" fits this category well.

Are we all absolutely sure we know what surrealism means in the context of cinema? Some strange choices being put forward here.

Koyaanisqatsi is another that I would not consider to be a surrealist film. It is a documentary without narration, or a visual tone poem, if you prefer, but not surrealism. If Koyaanisqatsi is surrealist then so is Man with a Movie Camera; which it's not.

If that isn't surreal, I dunno what is.

I had to watch crap like Last Year at Marienbad in film school, and it was no fun.
