Surviving “M*A*SH” cast members reunite on Alan Alda’s podcast

Alan Alda, Loretta Swit, Gary Burghoff, Jamie Farr and Mike Farrell (the last remaining main cast members of M*A*S*H) had a nice virtual reunion last week on Alan Alda’s podcast, Clear+Vivid: The Actors from M*A*S*H — On How M*A*S*H Changed Our Lives from Clear+Vivid with Alan Alda

 

Too bad I missed it and forgot.

 

It's still there - I've just listened to it.

That was great. Their 'hate' for Alda was palpable...

I presume you're being sarcastic. If they hated him why would they be on his podcast?

 

Oh, you're probably right. Ed probably is throwing shade on the stories that everyone hated Alda.

I did start to listen to it, and certainly hear no antagonism toward Alda so far, so I suspect your view of Ed's comments is correct!

The years roll on.

 

Given the show debuted more than 46 years ago and largely depicted characters who were supposed to be in their 30s, it's not too surprising.

Heck, even Burghoff - who was supposed to be a kid on the show - was almost 30 in 1972!

 

Yep. Aside from Burghoff, all the surviving castmembers are in their 80s. So not that surprising only half of them are left. What's interesting though is that the two youngest castmembers aside from Burghoff (David Ogden Stiers and Larry Linville) are among the deceased.

 

Hard to believe it’s been long. My local station used to run an hour of MASH reruns at 7 each night while the show was still on the air. I still remember watching the finale.

 

You're right. I'm just in denial that 46 years has passed by so quickly.

What’s nice is that all six of the deceased cast members are remembered lovingly in the podcast episode. Mike Farrell tells an especially funny story involving David Ogden Stiers and pranks.

 

My local ABC affiliate ran M*A*S*H reruns during prime access well into the late ‘90s.

I used to watch regularly in its weekly time slot and reruns after school. I was a teenager when it went off the air. I’ve seen countless episodes, but to this day, (I’m 52 now) I’ve never seen the final episode. Crazy, huh?

 

Spoiler: It was all Bob Newhart’s dream.

 

Linville died fairly young - only 61!

At least Stiers made it to his 70s...

 

I hear that! Seems like yesterday that the final show was on the air, not 36 years ago!
