    Grant,

I cannot remember the track line-up (I am at work). I know that it contains the Mono mix of Charlie Brown by the Coasters. I'll do a search here.

    Bob :)

    Grant,

Too Cute also contains a re-mix from the original three-track of Chapel Of Love by the Dixie Cups.

Warning: "Chapel Of Love" is missing the last layer of background vocal O/D's!

Amazing low end. That was a FLAT mix. No eq used. Neat, eh?

    Steve,

Neato! My guess is that there is some 50hz (or so) bass on that track! No EQ at all, I am impressed. It is really interesting that the Stereo mixes of this track that are present on other comps are missing that ultra low-end information. Most likely, snipped off!

Are you planning on taking the Peter, Paul & Mary songs from CD? Peter Yarrow remixed their 60s work for the CD reissues in the late 80s. They transferred the 3 tracks to digital, then did all the remixing in digital.

The sound is quite a bit different than the original vinyl (they definitely added reverb). I don't think you can get the original mixes on CD.

Yes, forget the CD's. Get clean copies of the original Stereo WB LP's.

    Steve,

How about the Ten Years Together CD?

I don't have this, but my guess would be that it MAY be a flat transfer put out during the "early days" of CD.

The vinyl DID always sound pretty good though. I can picture those Gold (Stereo) and Gray/Grey (Mono) originals right now!

    I haven't heard it.

When I first heard the WB CD echo remixes of the Peter, Paul & Mary stuff I was so shocked I went hysterically deaf for two days...

    Shades of ZZ Top!

The AAD CDs of Peter, Paul & Mary are original mixes, not the Peter Yarrow remixes, besides the LPs, which do sound nice. BTW, I do have a Reader's Digest 4 CD compilation which does use the original mixes, remastered by Ted Jensen with liner notes written by the group.

All CD versions of If I Had a Hammer use the stereo LP version and not the mono 45 version. The mono 45 version does have more energy than the LP version does.

    Jack the Ripper

Someone had mentioned Link Wray's 'Jack the Ripper'. The original Jack the Ripper came out in 1961 on the rare Wray family Rumble label (top left). It was a minor regional hit but did not get much airplay. It was discovered a few years later by a New York DJ and was eventually re-released by Swan Records in 1963 (top right) where it had better success. Shown in the photo is the Great Britain version (lower left) and the Australian version (lower right).

To my knowledge, ALL the PPM CDs are the Peter Yarrow remixes, not the original LP mixes. I only have the first couple of albums on LP, so I can't vouch for the later 60s material. But an A/B comparison of Peter, Paul & Mary and Moving against the CDs (including Ten Years Together and the Readers Digest box) sure sound like remixes to me. They all have that echo, not the nice, dry vocals of the original LPs.

    Chip,

Sorry, I have been away from my computer for a couple days--all good suggestions. I have many including the Spector box tracks. Little Town Flirt was an oversight, so, thanks!

    Bob:)
