Taylor Swift to start releasing new versions of her first six albums Taylor Swift to start releasing new versions of her first six albums Rerecordings follow a battle over the sale of the master tapes and will be preceded by the single Love Story (Taylor’s Version) ...
If she plans on recording outtakes for all the albums, I'm definitely game. The most interesting part will be the artwork decisions as well.
Seems like she will be releasing it on double colored vinyl/cassett/cd.... Open up the wallets again...

Ever since she first floated the idea of re-recording her old albums, there have been quite a few naysayers declaring, “She’ll never actually follow through on this.” Looks like she did. The inclusion of the unreleased songs is a masterstroke that gives her fans a reason to re-buy this album beyond simply “I support Taylor in her battle with Scooter Braun.” Also I think the cover artwork is massively better than the old Big Machine artwork, which was tacky. $13 for the double CD and $39 for the triple LP are also very fair prices.
It's very interesting. She is actually doing what Prince [or Artist Formerly...] threatened to do back in the 90s [but all we got was a lame remake of 1999 ]. I hope it goes well for her. I'll be watching to see...
It's an interesting watch. I'm imagining what artists from the 50's/60's could have done doing this and throwing it in the face. Imagine how many other artists could have survived had they'd had the opportunity... 'Roulette' artists with Morris Levy for example?
Inclusion of outtakes makes this a must-buy for me. I’m glad she also put “today was a fairytale” on there, a very solid single from the era. ALSO I’m excited to own a vinyl copy of Fearless that starts with the title track! I’ve always hated that the “platinum edition” opens with bonus tracks
I believe it was common practice, back in the day, to re-record old hits when artists signed to a new label. That's what happened to Chuck Berry when he moved from Chess to Mercury. He wanted to do new music, but all Mercury wanted were re-recordings of the hits he had with Chess [which naturally turned out lame because he wasn't into it].... Problem was [back then] labels, not artists, still owned and controlled the recordings. [Unlike modern Swift, who now controls all her new stuff.]
The Everly Brothers famously re-recorded several of their Cadence hits for Warner Bros. Nowadays, I think you have to have a lot of clout and a devoted fan base to pull off this strategy.
Her non-album tracks seem to be easily forgotten unfortunately, although considering just how many great songs she has, it's easy to understand that some will simply get overlooked. I love Today Was A Fairytale. The first time I got to see her was towards the end of the Fearless tour and she had added it to the setlist by then. The new songs from the Platinum edition never did much for me though. They just didn't have that same spark. I'm still interested in hearing them re-recorded and hearing the vault tracks (will these be old recordings too or new recordings of unreleased songs) but it's worth noting that Fearless is the album it is because of what tracks she chose. That's the "hidden message" in her post (just take all the capital letters.)
This means she might potentially add “sweeter than fiction” to the 1989 reissue and I will be so happy if that comes true
But no Crazier? Maybe she won't re-record it since it came out on Disney/Hollywood. Or maybe she considers it part of her first album era. I assume for the first album that she'll be including the bonus tracks and Beautiful Eyes songs.
Didn't know any of that. I just got onboard with folklore/evermore (familiar enough back to 1989 through kids). I've never heard Fearless, but ordered the new LP right away. I'm both curious and anxious to hear it.
I'm in a similar position but I hear that these re-recordings are precisely that ... very faithful to the sound of the originals. That makes me feel that as someone impressed by her “new” albums this may not be for me.
... and per the Download preorder site: "delivers on april 9th" CD: "ships on or around april 9th" Cassette: "ships on or around june 4th" Vinyl: "ships on or around august 27th"
I feel the same way. I've heard some of the earlier work, and it may not be up my ally. That said, she has a great voice, and I'm curious how she sounds on these tracks. I also benefit from having a 10 and 6 year old daughters, and they will both love it for sure.
Go Taylor! I look forward to hearing these. Can you imagine if the Stones had done this to ABKCO in 1971 - when they still sounded youthful? The world would have been better off for it. This is great news.
