Looks like they got the material right. Paul Sinclair reports: Definitely no vinyl rips. Original tapes. Remastering was done at Abbey Road by Peter Mew. http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/n...-hurting-four-disc-box-set-exclusive-details/
Mew is not highly regarded here [pre-09/09/09]; it will be 'interesting' too "hear" how this comes out!
Ha! I just needle-dropped my LP copy last night! I might get the 2-CD version of this, depending on how well it turns out. Not terribly optimistic about Peter Mew's involvement though, although that it not necessarily a deal-breaker for me.
The last couple of mastering s he has done have been pretty good however, I think it's been based on what his client wants and his company wants.
I'm gonna want the 2CD or download version of this. Although, there really are a lot of multiple versions of same songs on there that might not be *that* different and therefore quite redundant..
It appears the band has completely disowned "The Way You Are". The deluxe set includes live b-sides from the release but not the song itself.
Not completely. The 7" version is on the deluxe Songs From The Big Chair as well as the Saturnine Martial and Lunatic b-side compilation, despite originally being an A-side. Roland dismisses it with something like "I think this was the point we realized we needed to change direction". I don't know if the 12" version has ever been issued on CD.
Great news! Also great that a deluxe anniversary edition can be done at a reasonable price. Just compare with the ridiculous So boxset. Hopefully someone has realised that they were pushing the deluxe format to p**s-taking territories and we will go back to sets like The Jushua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire and this one.
The 12" version was on the 1999 reissue of The Hurting (complete with a candy-coating of shrill, screechy Jon Astley goodness).
Sorry, I meant to include a note in with that link. Your thread has a better title anyway, so maybe a Gort can merge the two threads or we'll just let the other one die out.
As my original copy of The Hurting sounds superb, I'll be containing my excitement. My expectation doesn't allow me to think that Mr. Mew will bring anything worth having to the party.
I'm concerned about the mastering but I don't have much of the bonus material. I've never seen that video either.
The live versions are amazing. As someone pointed out though, the original VHS had 80s effects on it. Hopefully those can be digitally airbrushed out!
Listening to it right now and I can understand why they want to forget about it More Kajagoogoo than Tears For Fears.
mmm compared with the other sellers, that's about £10-15 for the "free" 7" single.... I am going to pass...
