Hopefully, by this time next week I shall have acquired a Brio-R and a pair of RS1s (I finally overcame my inertia and traded in a bunch of disused gear). Along with my Rega DAC, enough to assemble an all-Rega system should that combo outperform my current setup. :)

I bet it'd sound amazing. Unfortunately, it was only a daydream...

Looking forward to reading your impressions with your all Rega kit. I know I'm very happy with mine. Be sure to let those RS1 run in a bit.

I'm still le let down about MonkeyMan's system!

Does anyone here have the Isis/Osiris setup? :)

Thanks ... this will be my second pair (I had some R1's about five years ago; I'd imagine the RS1's are not changed gigantically from the previous iteration...?)

From what I understand they are not the same (new tweeter)! And as for the Isis and Osiris I'm petrified (as apposed to mummified) of what ancient Egyptian deities would do to my bank account.

They'd take away the money you'd saved for a new car.

    Rega RP3 w/ Exact Cart & TT-PSU => Brio-R => RS5 Speakers

As of last night, I know have the Lounge Audio LCR MKIII Phono instead of using the internal Brio-R Phono and I'm blown away how good the Lounge Phono is compared to the Brio-R's internal phono.

I'm thinking about trading in the Brio-R and getting an Elex-R next, but I'm not sure if its worth spending $1,300 (assuming I get $500 for the Brio-R).

The DAC-R has arrived and so far the USB audio implementation has been a treat. If you remember the original Rega DAC only did 16 bit over USB. I own a number of 24/88.2 albums which posed a difficulty as Toslink as implemented on my Apple computers won't pass 88.2. Nice to listen to these albums without the need for a USB bridge or conversion to 44.1. The DAC-R appears in audio devises as: XMOS USB 2.0 Audio Out and sub texts "Clock Source: XMOS internal clock". All sources are apparently treated as 24 bit.

Yes, I always thought that they missed the boat on the USB implementation the first go around. I use mine with a Musical Fidelity V-Link 192 USB/SPDIF converter with great results though so just the USB implementation wouldn't sway me to upgrade.

It's still kind of a let down that they don't include DSD/DXD or anything over 192 at this point as well (especially at it's price range), as almost every new DAC coming out has these features and then some. I always felt that Rega lags behind in their DAC implementations. IMHO I think their TTs are much better than their DACs.

I owned the original Rega DAC and true it may have lacked some features it sounded wonderful. The new one is shaping up to be even better. I don't think I would call Rega's electronics inferior at all.

I didn't mean it to come off like that ... and I agree with you as far as it's a good DAC sound wise (although not the last word in resolution and detail IMO). But as far as features and being competitive with what's out there in the same price range ... I believe their TTs and Integrated Amps are way more competitive to other manufacturers (and often better for what you get) than their DACs.

I have the original DAC. I just use it to convert D to A from a Blu-Ray deck (via the coax) to play CDs, so inputs aren't an issue for me.

Sonically, what improvement might I gain from trading across to the DAC-R?

Really, no 88.2? Shows as an available option in Audio MIDI settings.

Let me correct that. The Apples would output 88.2 the Rega would not accept 88.2 over Toslink. Good catch!

The circuits have been revised along addition of the asynchronous USB. What that amounts to I'm not yet sure.

Tomorrow I take delivery of a Brio-R and pair of RS1's. Add to my DAC, and I'm all-Rega again. A fun experiment begins.
