Did he also do the original "Cars-as-people" cartoon, where the baby car grows up to want to be a hot-rod?

I'm all over this set. Warner has done a stellar job with their Popeye cartoon restorations and even leaves in banned shorts for completeness.

Yes, but are these censored? That's the big question.

I don't think any of the Warner Archive cartoon releases have been censored so far, but I suppose we'll have to wait for the official announcement and specs.

If they are teasing this with the twitter video, I'd suspect the announcement won't be too far off.

Friz Freleng did one before Tex did.

Check out Streamlined Greta Green from 1937.

I think @vince was asking about 'One Cab's Family'

I can't find the full cartoon, but here's a portion to jog yer memory.

In this cartoon the father cab can't keep up with his son, because he has a souped up engine and zooms around really fast. I think the family ends up with many souped up/fast car babies.

Popular enough that Tex made this:

Tex Avery MGM Cartoons - Little Johnny Jet (1953) Restored Opening Title & Closing

with the same premise, this time using prop plane parents and a baby jet.

I realize Avery’s “One Cab’s Family” was being referenced, but @vince had written “the original cars-as-people cartoon” (emphasis mine).

While there could be an earlier cartoon in the same vein out there, “Streamlined Greta Green” did come out 15 years before Avery’s effort.

Did Tex also do that cartoon in which all the phrases people used are shown literally?
The one I remember in particular is the one where someone asked, "Cat got your tongue?", and they cut to a cat, with a sinister look on his face, and he shows a tongue in his paw!

It looks like the cover says "Theatrical Shorts(?) Volume 1". There's only one disc pictured inside the case. Can they fit 65 cartoons on one Blu-ray? Hopefully we get all of them. Or it could end up like Tom and Jerry, where they decide to leave off a few offensive shorts from volume 2, fans complain, and they end up giving us nothing instead.

They might be able to cram 30 to 35 shorts on one blu-ray, and could quite possibly get all of the shorts on 2 volumes.

I'm fairly certain other Warner Archive cartoon titles were not censored, so there is some hope that we will get all the toons here.

Wasn't the Tom & Jerry set a mass retail marketed set?
That could explain the reason for the omissions, where as the Archive is more of a niche marketing thing that one needs to actively order from unlike a retail store that might get more casual purchases of titles. (did that make sense?)

Meaning that someone who actively orders from the Archive is more likely to know what content they are purchasing, as opposed to the casual purchase by a mom or dad in a retail situation seeing the set (Tom & Jerry) and purchasing on a whim for their kids.

    New info!

    Warner Archive Announces February Releases

Here's the text if you don't want to click the link

There were several masters of animation during Hollywood's golden era. Of the top two geniuses, one created elaborate fairy tales and ornate feature-length fantasias – the other guy was Tex Avery. He just wanted to make you laugh. Having already been integrally involved in the development of Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny for Warner Bros., Avery moved to MGM in 1941 to create a set of comedy masterpieces that defined a new slapstick style for animation, inspiring cartoonists, comedians and filmmakers for decades to come. Avery's unit at Metro Goldwyn Mayer was all about breaking the fourth wall, shattering expectations and making audiences fall down with laughter. His one-shot masterpieces, including Bad Luck Blackie, Red Hot Riding Hood and Symphony in Slang, have proven themselves pure gold. And continuing characters like Droopy, Screwball Squirrel and George & Junior – not to mention Spike, Red and The Wolf – remain unforgettable comic personas among the top rank of cartoondom. Avery's cartoons were ahead of their time – and their time has come. Finally committed to Blu-ray™, this first collection of restored Technicolor® shorts feels fresh and new, and is funnier than ever. This set will delight young and old – and will amaze a new generation ready to laugh again. – JERRY BECK, Animation Historian

Any info on if these will be factory pressed silver discs? I ask because Warner seems to be fond of the MOD route in some cases.

All of Warner Archive blu-ray discs are pressed discs, only their DVDs are DVD-Rs.

Magical Maestro isn't here. I always thought of that one being one of the very best Tex Avery MGM shorts. Either that's a good sign that they're saving it and volume 2 is going to happen, or they left it off due to the offensive stereotype gags.

Well, none of the other Warner Archive animation releases have edited or excised cartoons, so I doubt they are going to start now.

“Big Heel-Watha” is fairly offensive too, so I’d say Warner Archive is merely trying to spread the better films around.

This set is also missing “King-Size Canary”, “Little Rural Riding Hood”, and “Northwest Hounded Police”.

To me, it looks like they’re going to divide the Droopy cartoons among each of the volumes, and maybe put a Red cartoon on each set as well.

Whatever the case might be, there is definitely going to be a “for adult collectors” disclaimer on the back of the packaging.

Yes you could complain about what's not here or you could just buy the bloody thing and be thankful we finally have Tex Avery on a physical digital media format on this side of Greenland.

It's called "Volume 1", so it would be false advertising if they included everything.

Have my pre-order in place in hopes that it helps to ensure a Volume 2 happens.
