Just imagine if Columbia had issued this "best of" package in the U.S. in 1966 . . . Bob'd be wincing thru 35 years of "Poet or Prophet" reissues.

I can think of two things more embarrassing: Dylan's own SELF PORTRAIT in 1970, to be *outdone* by DYLAN, Columbia's release in 1973 of SELF PORTRAIT outtakes. Anyone clamoring for SACD reissue of these two titles?

If that's an EX- cover, I'd sure hate to see a VG one.

I wouldn't say clamoring, but I'd definitely buy Self Portrait on SACD. Never heard the self-titled Dylan. I assume Self Portrait will be part of the next batch of SACD hybrids.

I think I saw that one go by some time ago at a local auctions site.

I consider myself to be a pretty big Dylan fan, but no way I'd put myself through a high-rez playing of Self Portrait. the original was bad enough.

The funny thing is that some of the outtakes from Self Portrait and other takes not used on Dylan are truly great. Would have loved to have just heard Dave Bromberg and Dylan locked in a room with Dave on acoustic backup. Perhaps the Bootleg series will feature these some day.

I am! These are FAR from Dylan's worst albums (Knocked Out Loaded, anyone?), and Self Portrait would be worth it for the Isle Of Wight cuts alone.
