That CD longbox thread

    Yes, I remember those. Prince's "Around The World In A Day" and Motley Crue's "Theater Of Pain" are the two I recall. They made a big deal out of it at the time, but they flopped badly because (at least for the Prince) you had to keep the outer "longfolder" to get all the lyrics and such. I think they changed it on the Motley Crue disc so the mini-LP sleeve had all the info, but it died anyway.

    WB was always keen to kill the jewel case, probably because they own a piece of Ivy Hill, and stood to make a mint if they could replace the jewel box with something they owned the patent to. (This is the reason WB DVDs use the cardboard "snapper" packaging instead of the plastic "keep case" -- Ivy Hill designed the snapper, a smaller version of which is used for WB CD singles.)

    I think WB finally stopped using the snapper CD singles. Madonna's last few singles are not in a snapper case.
