The classic scene was from "The Girl Can't Help It".
I like the display of modified London covers on the hi-fi.

I hate to drag the "retro" thread forward into the '70s, but I just bought this 1973 Percy Faith album for a buck --Super Fly and Dueling Banjos on the same LP...wow.

I don't see the issue of dragging the thread into the 70s. I have been puzzled by the thread title but maybe misunderstood it. To me Retro Lounge is something that occurred after the original Lounge period ended. I guess we all have different dates for that but I would put it around the time Sgt Pepper came out. Of course it was dwindling in the mid 60s but the related genre of bachelor pad still had some legs (no pun intended). So any Lounge like album coming out After 1967 to me is Retro Lounge and anything before is original Lounge. I mention again that there was an interesting if slightly deranged article in issue 107 of The Absolute Sound back in the 90s (when HP was the Editor of course) on Bachelor Pad/Lounge and the retro revival.

Years ago I went through a Martin Denny obsession and bought a bunch of records. I have a couple Ultra-Lounge cds somewhere. I lost interest, but maybe I should put these on again sometime.

Found this today for a dollar. Living Strings, Living Guitars and Esquivel, plus another favorite, Si Zentner & His Orchestra. And we used to have a record player like that when I was a kid, only it was from Monkey Wards.

All those LPs look good, for a buck. And I had a rekkid player that strongly resembles that machine until 1983. :)

I find the whole retro-lounge-exotica + incredibly-strange-music idea cohesive and delightful.

I enjoyed one of my Friends of Dean Martinez cds last night.

This little tune is a real masterpiece.

But I find it hard to get any info regarding Anthony Thurlow, anyone?

Nice tune. I almost want to call it Light Classical, or a TV theme program about a farm family?

Listening to these samples makes me want to mix a vodka and tonic. But it's only 9 in the morning!

I always thought this was gorgeous.Percy got into a real groove here.Wouldn't sound at all out of place in a spy or crime movie soundtrack.

I am a sucker for buying anything with Hefti's name on it. (Anyone that gave us the Batman theme should have a life-long pass in my book.) This one in particular is a must for most of you here. The vocals put this one over the top. Hopefully it only sets you back a buck like it did me. However, having listened to it, I would gladly pay 20 times that amount.

I was pretty lucky yesterday - a 2 LP set of Tommy Mottola - My Favorite Things. Beautiful selection of songs and arrangements. It's actually quadrophonic, but plays well in stereo.

The real find was SHAKESPEARE AND ALL THAT JAZZ by John Dankworth and Cleo Laine. Shakepeare's words set to small jazz combo music.

It's an OK performance, pretty standard stuff for the era,but I don't hear the "over the top" acting that would place this in the laughably bad final frontier of Shatner.

Well, I feel good about posting this album on this thread when the first cut is the theme for Born Free as performed by Ronnie Aldrich and his two pianos, with the London Festival Orchestra. (It also has the same ensemble doing The Impossible Dream.) These Phase 4's sound terrific on my little set up.

And speaking of Alderich, here he is taking a crack at Simon and Garfunkel (ooof):

I have some vinyl albums of Les Baxter (no more than a handful), but my CD of his "Moog Rock" album paired with Martin Denny's "Exotic Moog" are both great albums. The CD is a boot though.

I think it sounds fine. I also have the first 3 volumes of Les Baxter and they sound good too, although a couple of them have a little surface noise from a needle drop. I don't remember any of that on the Denny. They may have been source from previous CD releases. Some of the Les Baxter never was issued on CD so they had to be needle drops. No idea if they did it them selves or found a download online somewhere as their source.
