That's cool to know (I can see the line now), but I'm having trouble visualizing the swinging.
Edit: Oh, I guess he means the stage right section swung. That makes sense.

Well, no, I guess he means stage left. Hmm Wish there was footage of this change happening.

I'm guessing you haven't seen that ep of 30 ROCK I posted. The Tracy Jordan character brings back some of the Night Court cast to film a "proper" series finale.

No, I do know what the show (30 Rock) is though.

Why didn't they get the rest of the cast?

Wow, you can find anything on YouTube, but you couldn't find this -- until now. I've looked for it periodically. Does anybody else on here remember this teaser announcement for Cheers? At the time, NBC was in the dumper with no shortage of lousy shows and ratings, and the takeaway is they're essentially saying 'believe it or not, we've got a good show coming.' I don't know why this has always stuck with me, but I find it interesting that it tells you nothing about the show and doesn't feature any of the stars. I tuned in to the first episode because of this spot.

No. There are a number of episodes where the office door is ajar and you can clearly see inside.

NC was always regarded as lowbrow by critics. It was a little too zany for some.

I think it was obvious it had canned laughter. I even have doubts they have a live audience. I recall hearing a lot of the same laughs over and over when I watched it.

The two powerhouses in Andersen and Laroquette is what sold the show, especially the latter. And let's not forget Richard Moll (sp?) as Bull. Doubt anybody else could've played that role.

And yet, Cheers was largely ignored by audiences for the first season and a half, ranking at the very bottom of the Nielsen rankings.

I have the entire Cheers series in HD and it looks drop-dead gorgeous!!!

It's hard to express how much I love this show. Acting, writing, directing, and even the set were impeccable.

Yup. It's endlessly watchable, maybe the only comedy other than 30 ROCK and MASH I can watch again and again and not get bored or overly familiar.

I've seen season 1-5, 11, and am halfway through season 6. So far, I still far prefer Frasier. The Frasier/Lilith episodes have been some of my favorites up to this point. Cheers is great, but I guess I just prefer the more over-the-top comedy Frasier (the character and series) tended to have.

Obviously I always noticed that, but no reason it couldn't have been a decoy instead of the actual office. I considered they just maybe moved the wall, but that seemed so difficult. Having the real office to the side would have been much more normal I think, too. This swinging set thing is cool, but I don't remember hearing about another show with a similar mechanism.

The show was supposed to end at season 8, and the scripts were written that way, with the last episode meant to be the series finale. Then NBC decided they wanted another season and were willing to pay a great deal for it (odd, considering that they allegedly didn't treat the cast well when season 9 finished production).

The show's writers had to awkwardly undo some of the plot of that last episode (primarily Harry and Christine ending up together). Unfortunately, that resulted in the godawful "phantom of the courthouse" story.
