There are some great songs after the first three, but Cassadaga by Bright Eyes' opening trio of songs is astonishing.

Yep, it is hard to ignore their best song, which I think The Cinema Show is. Firth of Fifth is not far behind.

I think there are some better nuggets than #2 Crippled Inside on the album (How?, Give Me Some Truth, Oh My Love), but the title track and #3 Jealous Guy are two of the best it has to offer. It’s suprisingly an even album.

I have to agree with Oatsdad. Bullet the Blue Sky is my favorite track of the entire album. I have a theory that pro Bullet the Blue Sky people tend to be guitar players (as I am), but regardless, there is no doubt, there is a definite pro/con Bullet the Blue Sky faction out there.

I don't play guitar, but I like "heavy" guitar songs, so that one's big for me.

I also don't love "Still Haven't Found". It's an okay song but it's one of my least favorites on the album.

I clearly get why some would say "Joshua Tree" peaks with its first 3 songs, but I think it's a very consistent album overall - lotsa good stuff on side 2!

I’m surprised Carole King’s Tapestry hasn’t been named yet (“I Feel the Earth Move,” “So Far Away,” “It’s Too Late”).

Though I’ll admit the rest of the album holds up much better than Bowie’s Let’s Dance.

Maybe...................... Cry Of Love by Jimi Hendrix though the last 3 songs are pretty tops as well if not as consistent as the first 3 are.
    Heartbreaker by FREE definitely
Between The Buttons By The Rolling Stones US Version
    Possibly.........................Wired by Jeff Beck

You should poll forum members’ favorite track on “obvious example” Houses of the Holy, if you don’t already know. :)

I'd make a case for Okkervil River's the Stage Names. The first time I heard it, I was immediately grabbed by Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe, Unless It's Kicks, and A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene. I dearly love the rest of the album, but after that 1-2-3 punch, it settles down a little bit.

If you count "Funeral For a Friend/Love Lives Bleeding" as a single track, Side 1 of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" seems a likely candidate.
