Other than the "hits", I really didn't discover the ABB until the Dreams box set came out. That was my first ABB purchase, along with Seven Turns shortly afterward. Looking forward to reading this thread as my ABB catalog collection is due for an overhaul and I will be interested to hear what y'all think is the best non-LP version of each release.

It is somewhat ironic that I received my copy of the last show in the mail this weekend and this thread was started.

Many years ago I had Reach For the Sky and Brothers of the Road on one of those twofer cassette tapes. I enjoyed them but never upgraded to CD when the tape broke. It's definitely a hole in my collection that needs to be plugged.

I often forget that Gregg is a pretty damn good guitar player.

I didn't realize he played so much guitar -- what songs can we hear him on?

I listened to the first album this morning. As time goes on, I notice the difference in sound and playing between their first few albums and the rest. I get the impression Duane was perfectionist about the sound. Everything just sounds tight, with no room for mistakes. Almost like Duane is challenging everyone in the band to play at their best.

I believe that's the shirt Eric Clapton gave him. I highly recommend Galadrielle Allman's wonderful book Please Be With Me and Alan Paul's great book One Way Out. I got hooked on the ABB right after their first album was released. A friend called me and told me to come over that he had a new album that was by a new band that I had to hear. He was right! Thanks Craig.

I will probably pick that up to read eventually but I have too much other stuff to read at the moment. :D. Thanks for the tip. I do have Greg's book and couple of others about the Allman Brothers Band.

I really love the new MOFI version of the 1st album. I was a little disappointed by their version of "Idlewild South" but this one sounds great. I have a mint late 70's era Capricorn pressing of the debut that has only seen a turntable a couple of times since I bought it sealed in the mid 80's. I've listened to the "Beginnings" version more through the years. Maybe that's why the new Mofi sounds so fresh to my ears. "Dreams" is one of those songs that never gets old. One of the standout tracks for me when I heard this album for the first time was "Trouble No More". "Beginnings" was one of the very 1st used albums I ever bought. Bought it along with a sealed Canadian version of the "Win, Lose Or Draw" 8-Track (on clearance) and a used 8-Track of Point Blank's first album. The store was Finder's Records and Tapes in Findlay, Ohio. I'm thinking this would have been around 1982 or "83.
