Which of these popular all female groups do you prefer?
The Bangles or The Go Go's?

The Go-Go's were more cuter, all around. The Bangles really only had Hoffs.

I could try to explain it but that might get weird

...and there is the added creepy factor of the scene being shot by her mom.

But The Bangles always seemed like much better musicians.

They both were good, but the Go-Go's had more of a band vibe about them, and a solid rhythm section that spoke to their punk roots without sacrificing their pop smarts or charm. Not to denigrate their musicality, which was fine enough in their Different Light period, but after a while, the Bangles were more about Susanna Hoffs and her close-ups then anything else. I kind of enjoy what the Go-Go's had more.

The Bangles for me. I could never quite get into the Go-Go's. Could be an age thing as the Bangles were bigger when I was 12 (in 1986) whereas the Go-Go's had already bitten the dust by then. Also, the Go-Go's were never as big in Australia as they were in the U.S. I think the Bangles were much better musicians with a great ear for harmony and a good pop hook.

    Both were equally average

For whatever reason, I never cared enough about either band to make that first purchase. Perhaps not watching MTV helped. lol

:D Yes, but isn't that the problem? It was a bigger hit than the original!! Also, it was their only Australian hit whereas the Bangles had many.

BTW who did Alex The Seal... Was it the Doug Anthony Allstars? I'm having a mental blank....

I like the bangles hits better . But How can you say no to that? Especially if you were a Junior High or High School student at the time?

The Bangles' songs seemed more contrived somehow. I choose the Go-Go's, though I liked both groups.

By the way, wasn't this a thread a couple of months ago?

Spiderbait, of course. I think they were just before my time...I really only remember Our Lips Are Sealed...Belinda Carlisle was already solo by the time I started buying music in 86.

The Bangles didn't have hits here until Manic Monday. Going Down to Liverpool and Hero Takes a Fall never charted here.
