btw, I'm locked in at $11.59! You late-comers jelly?

Anybody see a link to vinyl? For some reason I need to own this in multiple formats.

I can think of only one person in the entire world who has been.

I'll hold back and let Old Surfer Dude tell us who that one person is.

‘Fun Fun Fun’ sounds strange with these strings....like Let it Be-era Phil Spector produced ‘With The Beatles’....

This is indeed the saddest post in the thread. :agree:

I wouldn't mind hearing them tackle "Cuddle Up" on Volume 2. I just don't think surf songs need orchestration, but what do I know?

Given what I've seen and heard about this release so far, it's not a medley that I smell.

It's the new thing to do. We have had 3 Elvis albums and 1 by Roy Orbison. Reckon if it was released closer to crimbo and it was promoted half decently it wouldn't sell too shabbily. I'm gonna pass though.

I'm appalled but have no choice, I'm in.

(Unless Michael Buble is in there somewhere, like on the first Elvis, please say he ain't.)

Great! I love these projects (or at least the concept behind them). The Elvis releases were really good and I hope this one is too.

The Beach Boys' original production is a work of art. Why soil it with RPO overdubs? I get that it is a fad, and the Elvis releases have performed well in the UK, but this looks like a terrible idea. I would not take a free copy.

How about a Brothers Records era box set? Or at least an officially released version of Adult/Child?

An orchestral night with the actual BBs would’ve been great until Carl passed away. This is bizarre.

The complex instrumental arrangements of Pet sounds and GV and Heroes and Villains could be very interesting if an imaginative orchestrator could do some creative avant garde arrangements for orchestra. But the selection of cuts is puzzling. Darlin'? What kind of orchestration would enhance that song? They should have done some Smile songs like Worms, Surf's Up, Cabinessence that show how innovative an arranger Brian was. Or Time to Get Alone, This Whole World, All I Wanna Do, Cool Cool Water, Friends stuff, I Went to Sleep. Or Prayer, with no vocals, just the orchestra taking the vocal parts. It would have been much more interesting.

I ultimately agree those tracks would make this whole thing way more interesting, but the reality is, they picked the tracks that'll sell the record.

Hey, did the multi-tracks survive for this song?

"Fun, Fun, Fun"? Yeah, they found them along with a whole bunch more from the "Shut Down, Vol. 2" album about 10 years ago. Generally speaking The Beach Boys' archive with regards to multitracks is surprisingly intact, helped by the fact they own the tapes and not the label(s). The only really huge stuff missing are the final multitracks for "Good Vibrations" with the vocals and a bit of stuff from "SMiLE".

Okay - if Sean O'Hagan were doing the arrangements, I'd be interested.
