For reference, this is supposed to be a facsimile of the Freeman cover:

Agree. For such a creative time for the lads, it's amazing that the cover they came up with -- in addition to the original Freeman cover concept -- is so bad.

They surely made up for it, cover-wise, with Pepper -- too bad I can't agree with that assessment about the music.

I think the cover is fine and was probably an unconscious decision (or happy accident) that made Pepper cover that much more fascinating. Not a fan of the original Freeman cover either.

I'm not really a fan of the title (Revolver) though. Honestly, for years I didn't understand the meaning of it. As a kid it always conveyed an image of a gun and I just didn't understand why they would want that. Of course I get it now but it still isn't a favorite.

Revolver was the best name I think, but reading Beatles '66 made me realize how much they really labored over at the naming. At one point after yet another suggestion being turned down, Paul says something about might as well just call it Hits of '66 :)

In fact it would've been the name of the album officially but there was another band (I forgot the name at the moment) which had an album called Abracadabra released few weeks before Revolver.
Reminds me of the same situation with the White Album and A Doll's House.

By the way, I love both alternate titles Abracadabra and Beatles On Safari. Would've been nice album names.

Wasn't 'Bubble and Squeek" a contender? Yeesh. And glad they thought twice regarding the Freeman cover design.

Which Freeman cover? The butcher one or the black/white circle?

Personally I think the title and cover are great as is.

Frankly, it was the White Album where they really got stuck. :)

Thanks for posting that link. I have been listening to it for 30 years, but never knew why it was named that way. From the article: In any case, the title has nothing to do with a gun (as I always thought) but, as Ringo explained in 1966, "revolving, because the record goes round.”
