Is it possible to delete Pete Best’s parts from this session?

got it...first; I am not interested hearing the Decca Tapes without Pete can't change history and it does not bother me...
second; you did a great job, but I see it as pointless...: )
I can't imagine why anyone would want to hear them minus Pete?

I think it makes sense that overconfidence led them to party too much, drink too much the night before the audition. Hungover.

Although I cant really take the credit. I have used the web service called Phonicmind. That uses AI to separate instruments in a song. There are unlimited free 20 second trials on their website

Paul did a lot of that in those pre-Parlophone days...he'd add this husky, bravado tone to his voice which was very "pit-on" and obnoxious, IMO. Very evident in Like Dreamers Do. MOST thankfully he let go of it and started to find his true, "Paul" voice by the time of the PPM album. By WTB it was full-force Paul as we grew to know and love him.

Unfortunate that the other tape of the pair has gone missing, but it's good that the two tracks with issues on the best generation circulating version (Deccagain) could possibly be improved by Epstein's personal tape (the missing line in September and the tape drag at the start of Money)

I think The Beatles were a really, really good live band in 1961 -- everyone who saw them says so -- but you can't tell that by listening to the Decca recordings.

If they had gone in and just rocked it out, like a club set (and ideally not at 10:00 am on New Year's morning), I think it would sound great. Unfortunately, they were nervous and tired, and trying to impress show-biz big wigs by playing a balanced set of pop and show-tunes.

Even thought it's a bit ragged, the Star Club tape (with Ringo) is a much better performance.

This definitely showcases them as a GREAT early 60's live band. Playing all that material on the Decca tape which showed their sense of variety was mainly Brian's idea which you can't really blame him for. Who knows...if they did more of a set like this, Decca might have signed them..which, if you think about it, wouldn't have been much of a good thing. Everything, as they say, happens (or doesn't) for a reason.

I believe they partied too hard because it was freakin' New Years Eve! Can you imagine... I know they were desperate for any shot they could get, but talk about asking for trouble... Lennon and the boys prowling around London on New Years Eve! What could possibly go wrong?!
