This always sounded like two different sets of songwriters to me. The first side of the album is perfection, and the second is markedly weaker excepting Yesterday and "Seen a Face". I grew up with "Seen a Face" on the U.S. Rubber Soul and still think it fits better there.

Someone else has already pointed this out. I appreciate that it's too late to change the titles of existing threads, but can we get it right for future threads?

For one thing, you cannot "rank" an album. There must be at least two of something for you to rank them.

Agreed. Doesn't help that it's such a terrible sound too. Hurts to listen to on my headphones. Be it the '65 or '87 mix.

 

For me Help! is a great album. It shows the Fab's becoming more mature as sonwriters, having the confidence to explore different structures and arrangements. Most of all, it is very evident they are enjoying the music. Unfortunately it is held back by the covers which don't add anything better, and the rushed recording schedule. If they had more time it could be as highly regarded as Rubber Soul. Fortunately it is also supported by a strong graphic concept on the cover. It's regrettable that the movie wasn't as strong as their first one.

THE transitional album that bridges earlier era to later era Beatles. My faves run from "Rubber Soul" onwards... of the pre-"Rubber Soul" albums, "Help!" is my favorite... and I prefer the film "Help!" to "A Hard Day's Night" too- although both albums & films are fantastic!
