iTS a UK issue and was released as a promo in Oct 62 so in advance of release, i do not have an explanation for the correct order of the writers, others may have however it may have been something to do with EMI's in house publishers who only published these two songs before Dick " where's our payrise " James got involved.

"Love Me Do/PS I Love You" said "Lennon-McCartney". The next single "Please Please Me/Ask Me Why" said "McCartney-Lennon" (see photo). They were supposed to flip names back and forth for every record release. But John, with Brian's help, put a stop to that after the Barcelona trip.

When was the Barcelona trip? Maybe I remember wrong but if it really was around 1964, the other earlier singles (like 'She Loves You') would've been credited as McCartney/Lennon, too?

Imagine how much an autographed copy by the group would go for!

Oh wow! I wonder if any autographed copies have ever turned up?

I've only heard of signed stock copies surfacing over the years.

No, the Barcelona trip was in late April 1963, only a few weeks after Julian Lennon was born. (I guess John needed a break ... :wtf: )

"From Me To You/Thank You Girl" (see photo), released in early April before the Barcelona trip, was also listed as "McCartney-Lennon". But all other releases afterwards said "Lennon-McCartney".

Thanks for clearing this up, Arnie.

I had no idea they had an early scheme for the singles. Based on the Please, Please, Me LP I had assumed it was all "McCartney-Lennon" until the trip to Spain.

We've now reached a point in time where $10,000+ for a single piece of rare vinyl is becoming more and more frequent.

Perry Cox sold a First State mono Butcher in shrink for close to $16K a couple days ago.
Also a couple days ago, the original private press UK release by the group DARK - was pushing $20,000 before the listing was pulled.

When is this thing supposed to burst again?

I think that "From Me To You" should have been listed as "Lennon-McCartney" (because the previous single "Please Please Me" had "McCartney-Lennon", and they were supposed to switch the names for every single). BUT someone at EMI forgot to change the order for "From Me To You".

So that may be why John was adamant about having it changed to "Lennon-McCartney" permanently.

This was Tull's first single "Sunshine Day"/"Aeroplane". It was never officially released as "Jethro Tull", but apparently it was released as a counterfeit with the correct name.

And now, back to The Beatles...

Getting a bit off topic now but the talk of Barcelona trip prompted me to google and - wow - I'd never read that Pete Shotton account before. Not goint to put a link here because it's not related, but it's on the Beatles bible site.

What a shame that Benjamin Harrison never got the appreciation he deserved.

i did not pay five figures for mine although i did pay a decent sum but it was much much nearer the bottom end of the 1000's but i'd have never shelled out that kind of money unless i was sure i was getting a bargain...

ps the copy that sold was i believe an exceptional " once in a lifetime " example, mines nothing like as good although its not trashed either.

One of 250...exactly. It amazes me that people buy these urban legands. It’s likely nobody ever knew how many were made - or cared.
