I don't think they put any effort into either version.

Oh, I see... You're one of those types like the guy who threw a fit in the break area at work when I was making myself some microwave popcorn and just turned the knob all the way up rather than carefully setting it to 3 minutes ("like the chart on the microwave says to") even though I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE to turn it off once the popcorn stopped popping. ("That's not how you do it! You set the timer to 3 minutes, like the chart on the microwave says to! Oh my god, you're going to ruin everything!" I kid you not. My response: "Dude. Chill. I'm standing right here to turn it off when it's done.")

    Let's see:

    Past Masters 1
    Past Masters 2
So, 13 of 18 on Volume 1, and 14 of 15 on Volume 2. I think "Singles" would be accurate.

I'm so glad this didn't happen. The Past Masters sets are hugely preferable (to me anyway).

Also, there's no way McCartney will ever authorise use of the "cold cuts" name that he was once associated with, either for a Beatles or solo project.

I think the first one at least looked "official." Or "important." My parents actually bought me the 2-disc Capitol LP when I was a kid. It felt like an *album* in the sense of a book or anthology, not just a record album.

The back of the bag of popcorn clearly tells you to listen carefully and to stop the microwave after you stop hearing the kernels popping after about 5 or 6 seconds. :nyah:

Cold Cuts are great in a sandwich, but they make for a lousy album name, IMO. :)

Rock fact: the UK Rarities album is all of the Past Masters material that wasn't on Red or Blue.

Yeah, "Beatles: The Singles" was the first thing that came to my mind.

But it doesn't include a lot of their songs that were A/B sides on the Singles.

Past Masters and Mono Masters are fine to me. I much prefer that new product for The Beatles is understated like this.

"Trashed Masters" based on some of the mastering.

It was improved in 2009 but many of the 1964 songs are still as flat as Kansas. The "Long Tall Sally" EP is weakly EQ'd and horribly mid-rangey.

I've read that in several articles and I heard him explain it in one of the documentaries I have seen.
Capitol did add some singles on the albums that they sliced and diced for the USA market but Parlophone didn't do that in the UK and the rest of the wotld.

That would be a really great name for a John / Yoko compilation. :)
