Anthology. Which I always thought was a stoopid and misleading name for Anthology. A new generation of listeners could have thought they were getting singles and the like.

I know many don't like the Past Masters title, and I don't love it either. But it's hard to come up with a title that indicates what it is. I would have simply called it The Beatles with a black cover. As a two disc set, it might have become known as The Black Album. A hype sticker or text on the rear cover could have explained what it is.

To the original post: "B-Sides and More" is also misleading since there are A-sides included. You'd have to call it "A-Sides, B-Sides and More" or something like that. That's why I'd simply go with "The Beatles".

That's a nice idea. Well, it could confuse some people with the White Album (which is actually titled The Beatles) but since Weezer I think there's no problem with that.^^

I agree, When i bought it years ago, I thought that's what i was getting, (i was new to The Beatles then). I was sooooo disappointed with volume 1.

Same here, but I loved it. I even believed some of those alternate takes were the original released versions.
I got to know their studio albums long after the Anthology series.^^

The music itself was great! My favorite version of "Eight Days a Week" is there! It's just all the interviews that made me feel that i wasted money. Volume 2 and 3 were awesome! It's weird to say my first experience with The Beatles was outtakes, but it got the job done for me!

For the topic though, I think past masters is a fine title!
