So what are your favourites? Annoyed (like me) that the mellotron noodling was edited out from the beginning of Strawberry Fields Forever take 1?

Ideas that were used but then discarded (like the prominent organ in Getting Better take 1) that you like?

Anyone now prefer RM11 of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds?

Amazed (like me) at George's proficiency in instructing the Indian musicians on the rehearsal of Within You Without You?

That bass on Getting Better take 1 has to be the most distorted "through the amp" sound on a Beatle recording ever.

I`m waiting for the Deluxe Box but have the 2CD to listen to until I receive it, I`ll comment on the out-takes when I`ve heard the lot.

  8. I'm enjoying A Day In The Life Take 1 and hummed outro. Love the piano! Strawberry Field take 7 is fun -I dub it the prominent mellotron take / mix.:)

In some ways the wee jam/rehearsal is better than the actual take for me - and yes, that bass sounds well grungy! :p

Yes! I've been wanting to hear the full take 1 ever since they teased us with the part on the Anthology video - John's vocal style on take 1 takes my breath away, the pause between 'I read the news today' and 'oh boy' just kills me

in case anyone is interested and unaware, the two-disc set appeared on spotify yesterday. I'm guessing the box won't, at least for now, based on apple's established approach to streaming.

(I'm not particularly eager to wade into the maelstroms that are the other threads on this topic, so I'll just leave this here. I'm mostly interested in the second disc, anyway.)

I like the outtake of When I'm Sixty-Four (take 2) better than the finished version. And the sound quality of these outtakes are amazing.

Penny Lane Take 6 is amazing. That chorus is so majestic, very Pet Sounds like. And that weird noise before the modulation at the end is revealed, I think, to be a drum roll played with sticks on a bongo?

The full take 26 of Strawberry Fields is insane, and Take 6 of Penny Lane is a really unique listen compared to the final track. Would love to hear a version of this with Paul's Vocal.

Strawberry take 26 literally sounds like it's pitch shifted with the attendant too-fast tempo. It's about a step and a half too high. Is this deliberate? It sounds terrible.

The rest, as they say, is gear.

I thought so also. You can really tell from this track that Paul must have just ate Pet Sounds up.

The session outtakes are all interesting to hear (and of course essential to own for hard core Beatles completists), but I was expecting more breakdown of tracks, excerpts of retakes, and more studio chatter, as in many of the session outtakes on the 3 Anthology albums and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and Smile sessions. It does have some of that and I found George coaching the Indian musicians through "Within You Without You" especially revelatory. Interesting and essential as they are, I'm wondering (having heard them only once so far) if they will hold up to repeated listenings as well as the 3 Anthologies and the Pet Sounds and Smile sessions, all of which I have enjoyed listening to many times.

Ok Im enjoying this outtake disc more than I thought I would.

Sgt Peppers take 9- Paul screaming "Ouwwwwww!!" @ 47-48. Dont know if thats on the final take. But it sounded cool here.

Actually, yes! (I could see editing out the long pause after the noodling, but the noodling itself is as much a part of that particular version as is the "Take One!" announcement.)

Something about George Martin's voice is very assuring and cool :) I like all the chatter snippets, it's very charming in general. John's American "iced wader"

Why is there a separate thread on this? It's hard enough for me to keep up on the main one.
