What are your favorite (non-bootleg) live albums? Yes I know some live albums use studio overdubs, more so than others but that is another thread. Any R&B, jazz, soul live albums are welcome. I am lacking in that department so any input would be great.
Here's my list off the top of my head:

    Kiss- Alive 1, 2, & 3
Deep Purple- Live In Japan (3 CD set), Final Concerts, and all the Sonic Zoom series CD's that have been coming out recently.
    Rainbow- Live In Germany
    Eagles- Hell Freezes Over
    F. Mac- The Dance
Pearl Jam- Live In Atlanta - 3 CD single set import (Dissident single)
    Counting Crows- Across The Wire
    Nirvana- Unplugged
    Alanis- Unplugged
    Sarah McLachlan- Mirror Ball
    Neil Young- Live Rust, Unplugged

I attended one of the two shows. To see her perform 'O Superman' gave me goose bumps. And listening to this two cd set still does to this day.

I may have mentioned this in the other thread, but it is so good it deserves a re-run:

The Quintet (Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach) - Jazz at Massey Hall.

I only have a few "live" performance releases. Most I found that I don't care for too much like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Pack up the Plantation: Live!", Styx's "Caught in the Act", Pat Benatar's "Live from Earth" and, the godawful "Arena" from Duran Duran.

A little better is the live half of Heart's "Greatest Hits/Live" double LP from 1980, but even that is short on actual live material. Only 6 of the original 2nd LP's 9 tracks were live. Two of the non-live tracks and one live track was cut for the CD issue.

I have Pink Floyd's PULSE, but only on laserdisc - and it is very good.

My absolute favorite live release is Neil Diamond - Hot August Night. One of the best live performances ever. And I don't think any studio overdubs were used.

Fellahs, with all due respect to your choices which are great, you havent experienced a live LP untill you crank up "The Ventures- Live In Japan '65/'66". This Lp just SMOKES, the guys are playing the songs practically double time!!!!

This was released on Cd by EMI around 1996 and is a must have.

  21. Some of my favourites have already been mentioned such as Live At Leeds, Ramones It's Alive, Live Kinks.

    I'll add to the list
    Doors - Absolutely Live
Replacements - **** Hits The Fan
Frank Zappa - As An Am
Devo - Live At The Warfield (Warner Brothers Radio Shows promo album from the early 1980s)
Kate Bush - Live At The Hammersmith Odeon (CD and video)

In the early 1990s EMI U.K. released a number of concert videos with a matching CD. IIRC, Joe Cocker and Tina Turner were in this series along with Kate Bush. I bought the Kate package with of course a PAL video. Then about 2 months later Capitol Canada released it domestically with an NTSC video. I never bought one. Still kicking myself for that.

I have a great story about this album but I can't really tell it here.
Suffice it to say that the title of the LP was most appropriate...
    ;)
