This was gut wrenching to not include some songs, to fit onto 1 CD, but here goes...

The Right Place To FadeThe Gift of Screws
    TroubleLaw & Order
    CountdownOut of The Cradle
    Go InsaneGo Insane
    Holiday RoadNational Lampoon's Vacation Soundtrack
That's The Way That Love GoesSeeds We Sow
    Bang The DrumGo Insane
She Smiled SweetlyThe Gift of Screws (1995 version)
    Soul DrifterOut of The Cradle
    Cast Away DreamsUnder The Skin
Red RoverSay You Will/The Gift of Screws (1995 version)
    It Was ILaw & Order
Dancin' Across the USANational Lampoon's Vacation Soundtrack
Make Me A MaskFM 25 Years: The Chain
Try For The SunThe Gift of Screws (1995 version)
Time Bomb TownBack to the Future Soundtrack
    Under The SkinUnder The Skin
ComeSay You Will/The Gift of Screws (1995 version)
She Acts Like YouThis Is 40 Soundtrack
Love Runs DeeperThe Gift of Screws
Say GoodbyeThe Gift of Screws (1995 version)
Say We'll Meet AgainOut of The Cradle

Note: some of these made it onto FM albums, notably Say You Will, but were intended as solo. And in some cases I far prefer the Gift of Screws 1995 versions than other versions which followed.

  2. Time Precious Time is crucial. And I'd want true LB solo versions of Red Rover, Say Goodbye, and Miranda. Need Mick Fleetwood's "I Want You Back" from I'm Not Me.

As an unreleased track, I'd love to hear a finished version of this:

I posted this on a Lindsey thread from some time ago. Any "Best Of" should include the Letterman performance of Countdown. It rocks:

Without looking at the rest of your ideas, this is what I came up with for a one-disc set:

    1. Trouble
    2. Holiday Road
    3. Dancin' Across The USA
    4. Go Insane
    5. Slow Dancing
    6. Time Bomb Town
    7. Don't Look Down
    8. Wrong
    9. Soul Drifter
    10. You Do Or You Don't (I may have missed an OOTC song, but didn't want overload)
    11. On The Wrong Side (so good)
    12. Not Too Late (only because he maddeningly decided to play this in promo appearances when Under The Skin came out)
    13. Show You How
    14. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind (yes/no?)
    15. Did You Miss Me
    16. Wait For You (over Right Place To Fade, as it sounds like a rewrite of "Second Hand News" at times)
    17. Gift Of Screws
    18. Seeds We Sow
    19. In Our Own Time
    20. End Of Time

The songs he did for This Is 40 are not really great, with "Love Is Here To Stay" being a better version of that soundtrack's "She Acts Like You." I didn't use any of the McVie album songs, even though many of LB's songs were done independently of that project.

Having original (as intended) Gift Of Screws songs would be very interesting, heck just release the whole late nineties (as intended) version as a bonus disk on the “The Best Of....” before the Fleetwood Mac name was slapped on many of the songs

1995 version? I thought 1999 was the earliest possibly set date for it? Also did he ever do my little demons in the studio?

As with George Harrison and other artists who are better known for bands than their solo careers, I bet the label will insist on solo live versions of “Go Your Own Way.” “Big Love” and one or two other Fleetwood Mac songs.

I have one I put together right after he got fired which I suppose favors the more commercial sounding stuff I prefer:
    Don't Look Down (with intro)
    Trouble
    When She Comes Down
    Soul Drifter
    You Do Or You Don't
    End Of Time
    Under the Skin
    Gone Too Far
    Time Precious Time
    Did You Miss Me
    Underground
    Holiday Road
    Down On Rodeo
    DW Suite

Not wishing to thread crap but ...

I'm currently listening to a playlist I've put together of 21st century tracks by Fleetwood Mac and the individual members. Included are all the tracks from the recent B/M album, the most commercial tracks from Say You Will, many LB solo tracks and a few Nicks solo cuts.

It sounds far far better than I imagined, maybe because it is heavily weighted towards LB.

Guess there's no way to avoid "Holiday Road" - not sure why I hate that song so. But would appreciate a decent sampling from LB's albums going back to the 80s. Loved Gift of Screws btw.

  11. I've made a list of Lindsey Buckingham B-sides that could be used as bonus tracks.

    Law And Order:

    Lunch Hour
Era Yo = It Was I
    The Visitor (Bwana)
    Trouble (Studio Ace take)
    Trouble (Extended)

    Go Insane:

    Go Insane (Extended Remix)
    Slow Dancing (Extended Version)
    Holiday Road
    Dancin' Across The USA

    Out Of The Cradle:

    This Was Nearly Mine (Live)
    Street Of Dreams (Live)
    Countdown (Soft Mix)
    Trouble
    Wrong (Edit)

    Gift Of Screws:

Did You Miss Me (KBCO C Sessions)
Time Precious Time (KBCO C Sessions)
    Big Love (KBCO C Sessions)

    Seeds We Sow:

Sleeping Around The Corner (Original Version)
    End Of Time (Acoustic)
    Seeds We Sow (Electric)

Feel free to add any tracks I've missed, but pleased note what album they belong to. Also, please notify me if I've made any mistakes.

  12. Didn't he do a whole concert for MTV/VH1 for "Out Of The Cradle"? I believe it was his first ever solo gig.

That's a very interesting list. I'll have to check these versions out. I'll be quite happy, though, if I never again hear another '80s extended mix. Often they're abominations that strip the original of its warmth and elegance.

Thanks for this reminder. I managed to download the original GoS batch of songs back in the Napster days and listened to it repeatedly. I was pretty disappointed when several of these songs fell through the cracks as Lindsay released his albums over the past 15 years. Apparently, Deep Dense disappeared from my radar. Hearing it again after many years is such a treat. This is Lindsay's 'sweet spot" for me. Infectious hook laden melodies around simple chord structures, played with wild enthusiasm.... This could have easily been a Tusk outtake. Stuck in my head for days to come!!

    Thanks again!

I'm not real familiar with Lindsey's catalog, but I would love these to be included:

Without a Leg To Stand On - B/Nicks
On With The Show - B/McVie

    and the songs from Vacation:

    Holiday Road
    Dancing Across the USA

And imagine my disappointment when he didn't play this at his incredible show I saw at the Bayou in D.C supporting OoTC. LOVE this song!!! Watched my VHS recording of this for years.

I don't see "Lunch Hour" as a B-side. Someone point me there?

  20. Lunch Hour" was the B-Side to the original 45 of "It Was I" by Skip and Flip back in 1959. It is not the B-side of "It Was I" 45 by Lindsay Buckingham, according to Discogs.

Knowing how much Lindsey loves "Big Love", those 7 versions might just round out disc 2 :)
